Sigh me a river
It is a bit of a day today. We are nipping under the motorway and mostly following the route down alongside the motorway. We will hit, what appears to be, the old road - as seen in 2014 - and then head into 2025 and end near the Rio Baza.
Baza definitely sounds like an 80s sit com character, possibly the decent side kick of the wheeler-dealer. Rio Baza, meanwhile, has 68 reviews on Tripadvisor. When I say reviews, I mean not reviews. 85 reviews mention the word baza, but are riverless. It hasn’t even got a wiki page.
Oh well, let’s talk rivers. The Ebro River is the largest, while the Tagus is the longest in Spain. The Duero has the largest basin in Iberia - and some rather lovely wines - while you can actually navigate a decent way up the Gudalquivir.
The Duero begins in Spain and ends in Portugal, with a length of 897 km, of which 572 km is in Spain. This river rises in the Picos de Urbión, in the province of Soria and its mouth is in the Atlantic Ocean, near the Portuguese city of Porto. The Douro has largest hydrographic basin in the Iberian Peninsula, with an area of 98,073 km², of which 78,859 km² is in Spain.
The Ebro conquers up images of the great battle of 1938. It is largest river in Spain, 930 km in all. It rises in Fontibre, in Cantabria, passing through communities of Castile a nd Leon, La Rioja, Navarre, Aragon and, finally, Catalonia, and out into the Mediterranean Sea. The Ebro basin is the largest in Spain, with 86,100 km².
The Tagus is the longest river, arising from between Cuenca and Teruel in the east and enters the Atlantic 1007km away in Portugal. 816km of it is in Spain.
El Guadalquivir river It is the longest river that runs entirely within Spanish territory, with 657 km. It originates in the Cazorla mountain range, in Andalusia, and flows westwards, passing through the Andalusian provinces until it enters into the Atlantic Ocean. Going the other way you can get to Seville, as we will soon.
I feel the Baza is quite a long way down the list of supporting artists but here we are.
