Mini Pieces of Supposed tuna
Pina de Ebro has something for everyone who enjoys the architecture of Spanish pueblos. It has the tiny lanes, on which houses have been rebuilt for generations without a care for the needs of the modern motorist. We have the pathways which have been tiled over but once were dirt tracks. We have the modern suburban developments of low rise houses and 80s hopefully aspiring shacks. First all, however, we have a park.
One thing we noticed, especially with a small boy in tow, was the number of parks with interesting play equipment. This is because, in Spain, people seem to like children. This does make them a semi-public property and people feel free to indulge them with sweetmeats and pass comments. ‘I think sucking thumbs makes children look ugly’ said one elderly woman.’ My Spanish for ‘well desiccated prune face, no one asked you’ deserted me.
The play equipment is in the Plaza Pilarin Artigas. Honestly I’ve looked and was giving up when finally I found an article in El Periodico de Aragon https://www.elperiodicodearagon.com/la-cronica-de-ribera-baja-del-ebro/2004/06/08/pina-dedica-plaza-pilarin-artigas-48246174.html Pilarin Artigas spent her working life teaching in the town. She was honoured by having the plaza named after her.
As we wend our way into town we will pass near a Mosque and on to the Asador Los Arcos. https://asadorlosarcos.es/ They open at 7 and have a bakery and a restaurant. Here are two reviews from a month ago.
Jose said ‘We are in the area for work and it is the best place we have found, clean and well-kept. The toast in the morning and the coffee are great and the mid-day menu is good in quantity and quality, if there is homemade dessert it is mandatory to order it. Anyway, we are permanent from Monday to Friday.’
Mar cc was differently taken ‘I don't give 0 stars because it's not possible!! The biggest joke I've ever been given in a restaurant. For two small bones 7 or 8 cm, hardly any meat with stewed potatoes, supposedly tuna (three pieces no bigger than a coat button), a couple of prawns with potatoes. They charged me €16.50 per dish. They said the ribs were lamb hahaha. Too bad I didn't take a photo of them!!!! They were ridiculous just like the mini pieces of the supposed tuna!!! But since I consider myself an educated person, I paid and I will certainly never return. From my point of view, I imagine they saw that we were from outside and they teased us however they wanted.
As ever, I urge you to visit to make your own mind up.
And so we leave and head out into the fields and the future and muse on the fact today is the Day of Andulcia. They are having a holiday.
