Storks as protagonists

 The arrival of the motorways, in this case, the AP-2, has seen the collapse of some of the old petrol stations and wayside hotels.  We will, however, as promised, passing another retirement home - Las Adelfas Residence.   According to the website ‘At Las Adelfas Residence, we have large natural spaces (10,000 m2) that provide a peaceful and relaxing environment, ideal for the well-being of our residents. There are 21 reviews and it averages 3 - one of the five stars being very critical. I am not sure what to say with these.  The most recent, a month ago, is five stars and I will quote the first paragraph. ‘MY 102 YEAR OLD MOTHER MERI HAS RESURRECTED IN THE OLERA... IN HER HOUSE SHE WAS MENTALLY FATAL AND NOW HER MIND IS A COMPUTER... SHE HAS GOT FAT AND DOES EVERYTHING HERSELF. THE CAREGIVERS ARE WONDERFUL AND VERY PATIENT’  Please visit and make your own mind up.



 We are going to skim past Osera de Ebro. It is a riverside pueblo with just over 400 inhabitants, it has been that since the 1950s, with a slight dip in the 70s and 80s.  https://osera.deebro.es/  We have just missed the registration for the Petanque League and, yesterday, the Board Game afternoon. 




The website makes the most of the church and the fauna ‘Osera de Ebro has a rich variety of flora and fauna species, with one standing out above all others: the white stork. With populations throughout the year both in the Church and on the electricity poles, it is an important and fundamental enclave for the reproduction of this bird, which was on the verge of extinction.’




We will pause at the Restaurante El Unico. It is a lunchtime sort of place.  The clientage builds across the morning, peaks at 2pm and disappears after 6.  Six days ago Javier says ‘The food is phenomenal and the family is very friendly and serves very quickly and well.’   Aina reckons ‘Incredible menu for 12 euros and with coffee 13 euros. Starter, first, second and dessert.  Casolano and very quick to stop on the way!




Were it warmer we could go for a dip in the Municipal Pool.  Prista reports ;Small saltwater pool, very quiet and family-friendly. With shade. €3 per adult.  Oscar added ‘They are very well maintained, few people so there is no accumulation in the pool. The bar works well, you have to buy the pass or subscription there.'



We must pass on and head down the valley.

Mini Pieces of Supposed tuna

  Pina de Ebro has something for everyone who enjoys the architecture of Spanish pueblos.  It has the tiny lanes, on which houses have been rebuilt for generations without a care for the needs of the modern motorist.  We have the pathways which have been tiled over but once were dirt tracks.  We have the modern suburban developments of low rise houses and 80s hopefully aspiring shacks.  First all, however, we have a park. One thing we noticed, especially with a small boy in tow, was the number of parks with interesting play equipment.  This is because, in Spain, people seem to like children.  This does make them a semi-public property and people feel free to indulge them with sweetmeats and pass comments. ‘I think sucking thumbs makes children look ugly’ said one elderly woman.’ My Spanish for ‘well desiccated prune face, no one asked you’ deserted me.  The play equipment is in the Plaza Pilarin Artigas.  Honestly I’ve looked and was giving u...
