In the village where the garbanzos grow
We are going up 186m today and then down the same amount. Balance has been brought to the force.
A lot of the day will be spent on roads that have been improved so you can dash through the trees, scrub and occasional field. We will kiss the edge of Taravilla, which is really the other side of the hill. That is enough for a few details.
Once 408 people lived here. Now a mere 65. It is the same story as other places nearby - the flight to the cities for jobs and being too far from town for commuting repopulation. Our old friend the GSH Dictionary was here in 1845.
TARAVILLA: Situated on a plain at a high point on the right bank of the Cabrilla River , it enjoys good ventilation and a healthy climate , it has 100 houses ; the town hall; a primary school, attended by 30 students; a parish church served by a priest and a sacristan: The land , watered by the aforementioned river, is partly hilly and partly flat, and is of good quality: it includes good patches of woodland covered with holm oak, oak, juniper, rosemary, and good pasture grasses; roads : the local ones are bridle paths and in poor condition ; mail : it is received and dispatched in the district capital; production : wheat, barley, rye, oats, vegetables, chickpeas and other legumes, firewood, and good pastures, with which sheep, goats, cattle, mules, and pigs are kept; there is hunting of hares, rabbits, and partridges; industry : agriculture and livestock breeding; population : 92 households, 408 inhabitants.
The mayor is from the PSOE. The place has a town hall but I can not find the website. People use the Google Review function to leave messages….
Sonja ‘We spent the Easter weekend in this lovely village with our campervan. The people here are very friendly, we felt very welcome!’
Pn89 ‘⚠️ Do not book hunting in advance with Hector Muñoz, he does not refund your money ⚠️’
We shouldn’t, but we are going off piste to go to the Bar de Juan. It opens from 10am to midnight and people seem to love it.
Four months ago Carmelo was very happy. ‘Hi everyone. Two hungry bikers around 1:30 pm, without thinking twice, ended up at this bar in Taravilla. A great find! And you don't need a menu or Michelin stars to eat well and enjoy yourself. I'm not giving the atmosphere 5 stars because there were only a few of us in the bar, but I'm sure some good times happen there. ‘
A week ago Maria Jesus declared ‘We arrived unannounced at midday. Simple but tasty food. Friendly service. Salad, cold cuts, trout, corned beef, dessert, and coffees. €39 for two people. A place to return to. ‘
Back to the road and lots of trees.
