In the land of excellent sheep cheese

 Yesterday was very townie. Today we will visit places. Tomorrow we will get back to towns.



The Tienda Quesos Don Apolonio is what it says on the label. A cheese shop. In the name of Don Apolonio.  Moreover, it is an LGBTQ+ friendly cheese shop. Karmentxu sums it all up and did so three months ago. ‘They have all kinds of cheeses, as well as wines, sweets, honey, cured meats, canned fish and seafood, and gluten-free, sugar-free, and lactose-free products. Excellent parking and long opening hours. 100% recommended. ‘  They have a website.  https://quesosdonapolonio.es/   The Queso Manchego Mercedes comes in at 21.50 euros a kilo.



The Restaurante Bufet El Cordel is next on our journey.  It gets 4.3 stars from 1407 reviews and yesterday Maria gave five stars.  A week ago Jesus felt four stars was enough but felt ‘A wide variety of very well-prepared food, but the place is very noisy due to the crowds on weekends. All-you-can-eat buffet on weekends is €25, including all kinds of drinks. A real bargain! ‘



Look, I think we have come to know each other and as we have another cheese shop we are going to go in, aren’t we.  The Queseruia Portezuelo Grupo Masias.  Luis felt it is an  ‘Excellent shop specializing in Manchego cheeses and cured meats. Highly recommended. Great variety of products. ‘



Into town and the Neustra Senora De La Fe Grupo Montes Norte. It is an olive oil cooperative. It opens 7.30am - 1.30pm and 5-7pm weekdays and 8 am-1pm on Saturday.   https://www.grupomontesnorte.com/  The most recent review is by Maria. We shall end in a supermarket.  Supermercados Charter gets 4.5 stars from 58 reviews.   https://www.consum.es/supermercados/fuente-del-fresno-avd-provincia/  Two months ago Roberto summed it up thusly ‘Small supermarket but with a very good assortment of products and brands. ‘

  We are pottering along at 91m but will be a mere two by the day’s end.   We are heading for San Vicente de la Barquera. It is one of those places, on a hostile coast, which provided a safer shelter.  As a consequence it got a castle. The place did the usual having Bronze Age chaps loafing about. The Romans made a small port.  It really got going when Alfonso I sent peoples to populate it in the 8th century. The castle was built, the town followed.  Things really got going in 1210 when Alfonso VIII gave the place a charter.  It got the same privileges as San Sebastian. Life in the Socialist Citadel

  We are wandering a bit around tracks that are not in the ken of streetview. El Burgo Ranero is one of those places with newly kempt squares and tidy houses next to wastes and scrubs. It always struck me with Spain they had so much land they could afford to be a little cavalier with its use. The tidying up has started but is never in control. El Burgo Ranero has 841 or 647 inhabitants [depends on which nations wiki pages you go on, a flag which announces it is on the camino and a website.  https://www.aytoelburgoranero.es/  It is under the thrall of the PSOE. I must admit, as a humble Deputy Chair of a Parish Council I really like the fact their town council has a Mayor-President, a 1st Deputy Mayor, a second Deputy Mayor and a single ‘Councillor’ from the the PSOE. The Frontier is marked

  It is Twelfth Night but who needs to know this. Tomorrow is the key day for us i Spain.  Let us head one towards the Murcian border.  The road is a bit similar. It does feel like a 70s cartoon, where Scooby runs down a corridor which is eerily the same. We will pass the Univeridad Miguel Hernandez.  A week ago Valor wrote ‘ It's okay, a bit old-fashioned but a good place to study for a degree’.  Time to move on. What every University needs is an expresso bar.  Planta Baja fulfils that need. Fernando felt ‘A very cozy place with very friendly staff. If you like darts, this is the place for you.
