The land of the westerly winds, snot and rheumatism

We are heading off to Brazatortas and why not.   The English wiki page does not need a summary because it is this ‘Brazatortas is a municipality in Ciudad Real, Castile-La Mancha, Spain. In 2021, it had a population of 998.

The Spanish page is more extensive and notes, by 2025, the population was 1,007 - which means we can treat the place with much more seriousness.

Our old friend, The mid nineteenth century  ‘Geographical-Statistical-Historical Dictionary’ has things to say:

situated among mountains, it has a cold climate , westerly winds prevail, and catarrhals, rheumatism, and epilepsy are common. It has 200 houses with no other building than the church, dedicated to Saint Ildefonso, annexed to the parish of Puertollano, and the hamlet of Viñuela is attached to it

At 1 km from all points, and comprises the valley of its name, of good quality, separated from that of Alcudia by one of its many mountain ranges covered with scrub and crags; a small stream bathes it to the north, and the land is of inferior quality; the roads are more like paths that lead to the nearby villages: the mail is received in Almodóvar by courier. Production : few cereals, some goats and cattle are kept, and much big and small game is raised. Population : 221 households, 1,105 inhabitants.

The population gradually rose in the 19th century, hit 3019 in 1910, declined and rose to 3237 in 1960 and then has been on the slide since.

The town has a nice picture on its webpage https://ayuntamientodebrazatortas.es/portada.php It has not be soiled by over use. Many pages are not troubled by being filled in.

Into the town and the Panaderia y Bolleria San Luis. This has but two reviews and an average of three stars.  The weblink doesn’t.  A week ago tonsils said ‘The opening hours say it closes at 3 pm, but it's closed at 2:30 pm. We knock and someone rudely tells us it's not the right time. ‘   Jose was happy in a wordless five star sort of way.

Nearby is the Bar Restaurante Usero. Exactly one hundred more people reviewed it compared to the bakery.  A month ago nicolas said ‘The waiter was a true professional, friendly, attentive to every detail. We were delighted. The food was excellent, a ten out of ten in every way. We will be back. ‘   You have to go seven months to find a sudden, one starer.

Let us follow 2nd October Street out and on to the road under the railway and back to the N-420, well the N-420a.
