Beautiful jugs and magnificient flowerpots

 We are wandering through the tiny lanes and occasional spaces that makes up down town Toledo.  




The Museo Taller del Moro https://cultura.castillalamancha.es/museos/nuestros-museos/museo-taller-del-moro aka ‘|Workshop of the Moor’, is a 14th century palace with samples of the arts and crafts of the 14th and 15th century.  Last month Harry wrote ‘Very similar to the Sephardic Museum, although you have the opportunity to see more Arab art embedded in its walls. It's worth it for the price.’

Serrano’s ceramics shop.  Oh my lord, I’m in love.  Last time we had a small boy and limited luggage.  Next time it will all be different.  https://www.ceramicajserrano.com/  Just look at the website.  Go on, treat yourself.   Two weeks ago josiane wrote ‘An incredible selection of beautiful ceramics...jugs, dishes, magnificent flowerpots, a superb fountain, and bowls, cups, etc. - an extraordinary selection.’   Laura opined ‘A visit to this shop is a must. The place is amazing. And the products are absolutely beautiful. But the best part is the staff. They explained so much to us about the traditional ceramics, all handmade. They also recommended we take a stroll through the shed area, and we loved it. ‘



We are in the Jewish quarter and just as Burgos Cathedral was keen to point out El Cid was a bit multicultural, so Toledo has rediscovered its Islamic, Visigothic and Jewish pasts.  The Synagogue de Santa Maria La Blanca is a building with a history. The 12th century Moorish-style Jewish centre of worship was converted into a church.




Marc bristled with self as he wrote 17 hours again.  ‘There is absolutely no explanation in English except with an additional audioguide. All explanatory panels inside the synagoge are in Spanish exclusively. In addition to that the synagogue is empty and thus seems to be stripped of its meanings. We're very disappointed and won't recommend this place knowing that there are so many interesting synagogues in cordoba and Gerona WITH intelligible explanations in English! ‘  It does cost 4 euros and is a bit small so some felt that it wasn’t worth the 800 years of History.





We are passing the Monastery of St John. https://toledomonumental.com/monasterio-de-san-juan-de-los-reyes/  Gregory liked the place.  An absolutely stunning church, and a definite must-visit on your list while here. The architecture and craftsmenship that's been put into this design and layout of this church they haven't spared any ideas. The corridors and arches of the garden are stunningly crafted and designed everyone is different. The paintings, the art, the stonework is stunning. You will be here for a couple of hours and it's included in the joint wrist band so make sure you buy before you visit. I took my time while visiting this church / monastery. I hope you do to.’





We will end the day peering out of the Puerta del Cambron.  Alex sums it up nicely. ‘An impressive historic gateway!   We are pottering along at 91m but will be a mere two by the day’s end.   We are heading for San Vicente de la Barquera. It is one of those places, on a hostile coast, which provided a safer shelter.  As a consequence it got a castle. The place did the usual having Bronze Age chaps loafing about. The Romans made a small port.  It really got going when Alfonso I sent peoples to populate it in the 8th century. The castle was built, the town followed.  Things really got going in 1210 when Alfonso VIII gave the place a charter.  It got the same privileges as San Sebastian. Castro Urdiales, Santander and Laredo.  Along with Laredo, it has not prospered as much.  Fate was not kind.  From the mid 15th century, fires and plagues did not help.  When Charles I visited the town a bullfight was held in his honour.  He fell it at it and had to spend the night at the Convent of San Luis.  The town has a website.  https://aytosanvicente...

  It is Twelfth Night but who needs to know this. Tomorrow is the key day for us i Spain.  Let us head one towards the Murcian border.  The road is a bit similar. It does feel like a 70s cartoon, where Scooby runs down a corridor which is eerily the same. We will pass the Univeridad Miguel Hernandez.  A week ago Valor wrote ‘ It's okay, a bit old-fashioned but a good place to study for a degree’.  Time to move on. What every University needs is an expresso bar.  Planta Baja fulfils that need. Fernando felt ‘A very cozy place with very friendly staff. If you like darts, this is the place for you. Great coffee and great cocktails. 100% recommended.’ and why not. Well, we have been building up to Murcia for sometime and now we are here.  To be honest, I was expecting a sign. It's a shame the hooligans and the weather ruined some of the views

  We are heading south and cross the Mu-33 and wandering passed the Hospital Materno-Infantil Virgen de la Arrixaca.  We do not need to visit but who can resist a review?  https://www.murciasalud.es/seccion.php?idsec=347   I am always a bit wary of public institution being reviewed as people feel freer to vent.  It gets 3.4 stars.  About 45% are 5 star and 35% 1 star.  Google gives you four options - so here they are: Most relevant. 10 months ago.
