Remembering the providers of fresh waters
We begin the day pottering along the A-8005 but soon are off it and cross the Canal de Valle Inferior del Guadalquivir and the Canal del Bajo Guadalquivir, which will walk down a bit before a spot of water hopping.
The Canal de Valle Inferior del Guadalquivir has three wiki pages - in Spanish, Galician and Catalan. It was built by, at its peak, 2000 Republican Prisoners of War between 1940 and 1962. The original plan was to irrigate 56,000 hectares but currently reaches 80,000. In 2006 a section of it was renamed The Prisoners’ Canal. Three years later a memorial was established at the former entrance of the Los Merinales work camp.
We will be skirting round the edge of the pueblo of Pradollano. There is another Pradollano. It is 2078m above sea level and is a ski resort. It has many, many sites about it. This one isn’t and doesn’t.
We will end with a couple of visits. The first is a somewhat oddly named ‘SHOT Sevilla Horse Tour.’ Google says it is a catering supplier. Apparently it is open 7am to 11pm, seven days a week.
A year ago Cristina wrote ‘A fairly large country house with spacious common areas in the sun, large bedrooms with en-suite bathrooms. Towels and linens are provided. If I had to suggest an improvement, I'd say the downstairs lounge could use a few more sofas to better accommodate the number of beds. The house and surrounding area are quite clean and welcoming. ‘
Three years ago Pablo felt ‘A fantastic place for a bullfighting event with friends. The owners are incredibly attentive and it has all kinds of amenities. A 10 out of 10! ‘
Nearby is Cortijo La Amazona Casa Rural. It is a cottage with a swimming pool. Eight months ago Sam was very fulsome with the five stars.
Wow, where do I even start? I booked this villa for 19 of us for my brother’s stag weekend and it was absolutely perfect from start to finish. Aida is hands down the best host you could wish for. Her communication before, during and after our stay was exceptional, and she went above and beyond to make sure everything went perfectly.
When we arrived, we were blown away by how stunning the property is. At my request, Aida had prepared fresh sangria for us on arrival, which was a perfect welcoming touch. From that moment, we knew we were in for a fantastic weekend.
Every bedroom was spotless, beautifully presented, had air conditioning and it's own en suite bathroom. The outdoor area was simply sensational, with a gorgeous pool, beer tap and BBQ setup that made it hard to leave the villa at all. We tried both the paella and BBQ menus during our stay, and the food was outstanding. Having a chef and waiter there made the whole experience feel extra special, and we were really well looked after.
Although Seville is only a 30 minute drive away, we honestly found ourselves not wanting to leave the villa because it was just that good. I can’t recommend this property - or Aida - highly enough.’
That is it for the day.
