Noble Pineapples and the chemical art
It is a bit of a day of sweeping vastness. We will pass some electricity works, look at them, and then do five things.
PFV Envatios is a solar power plant. It has nine reviews. It gets 4.3 stars and few words. Rafael gave it one star. A different Rafael gave it four and the only two words ‘Great, good.’
Down the road is Acceso PFV Envatios Enel Green Power. Google says it is a warehouse. It has 2 reviews and 2 stars. Victor gave 3. Jose gave 1. Neither say why.
The Medieval Pandemic of the Black Death killed 60-65% of the population. Alfonso XI of Castile died in the middle of his war against Andalusia. Navarre was badly hit, especially as it was recovering a severe famine. Princess Joan of England was en route to marry Prince Peter of Castile when she caught the pestilence and died.
Pineapple-gate. In 2024 a craze hit Spain after the supermarket chain, Mercadona, claimed that people could find romance in their stores between 7pm and 8pm. To quote the BBC ‘On a TikTok account bearing its name which the supermarket said belonged to a “fan”, a picture of a pineapple was posted, with the caption: “The pineapple on the shelf of Mercadona waiting for you to get a date.” This lead to many people going to the store, including a man from a stag party dressed as a pineapple. The Police were called.
98% of Spanish Pineapple production is on the Canary Islands. This is not saying much. 100 hectares was planted during the 1980s and the production has declined since then.
The oldest Spaniard to be born in Spain was Ana Maria Vela Rubio. She was born 29th October 1901 and died 15th December 2017. She came into this world at Puente Genil, Andalusia. Ana Maria was a dress maker, never married, as her parents objected to the man, but still had several children with him.
Seven Spanish born men have won the Nobel Prize, five for Literature and two for Medicine. Severo Ochoa got his for "for their discovery of the mechanisms in the biological synthesis of ribonucleic acid and deoxyribonucleic acid" and Santiago Ramon y Cajal "in recognition of their work on the structure of the nervous system" .
Abu al-Qasim al-Qurtubi al-Majriti was the first person to synthesise Mercuric Oxide. He did in the 10th Century.
