Park of a thousand stars and not a few museums
We, dear fellow pilgrim, are fine discriminators of beauty. Not for us the mere mathematics of the stars, falling from review. We regard the one and five stars as things that smatter the pages of the digital world as opinions cast, often, without care or regard. However. The numbers don’t lie. The Parque de Maria Luisa gets from 4.8 stars from 41,587 reviews. That is a lot potential reviews that could drag it down which don’t exist. We are going to spend the day here.
The Parque began to become a thing when the Infanta Luisa Fernanda donated the land to the city of Seville. In 1911 Jean-Claude Nicolas Forestier redesigned the gardens into their present pleasant shape and the work of Anibal Gonzalez for the Ibero-American Exposition nailed it. Forty-eight minutes ago Lissoeth wrote ‘Very nice for walking and relaxing’ .
As a contrarian I, of course, looked at the one star reviews. E.S. objected to horses pulling carriages. Nina objected to the park being closed because of storms. Patrick felt the lack of going to the Plaza de Espana during a musical festival deserved the worst of reviews. Hadi just thought it over rated.
We are going to the Museu de Artes Y Costumbres first. https://www.museosdeandalucia.es/web/museodeartesycostumbrespopularesdesevilla It is open from 9am to 9pm Tuesday to Saturday and 9am to 3pm on Sunday. It is what it says on the label. Terri sums it up nicely. ‘Thoroughly enjoyed my visit to this museum. Not only is the building wonderful, the Cultures of the Sea exhibit was so interesting, and the collections and displays downstairs are amazing. A highlight is the workshop displays, assembled with great care and detail. A museum not to be missed by anyone interested in handcrafted goods, the people who create them, and their history.
Lets us quietly nip to the Isleta de los Pajaros. It is among the trees that offer so much shade. Sylvia liked it. ‘Little area in the park that attracts lots of people and birds. It seems to be the most stay around to take photos, walking their dogs, etc. In the late afternoon, the smells can be a bit much. On the warm day, there are mosquitos in the early evening. Watch out for that.’
On to the moated Plaza de Espana. It gets 4.8 stars from 183,531 reviews. It has fountains and ceramics and all manner of loveliness. Top review terms include boat ride and flamenco and I am trying hard not to mention both at the same time. 13 hours ago Francisco gave five in stars - but I feel, four in comment. ‘A spectacular park for walking, playing sports, and enjoying nature. My only complaint is that it lacks staff for maintenance, security, and providing information, so that it's in the condition it deserves.’ Manuel gave more details ‘Historic urban park that houses the Plaza de España, recreational areas, monuments, fountains and lush vegetation.’
We are ending the day at the Museo Historico Militar de Sevilla. It only has 853 reviews but plumps up at 4.5 stars. Three days ago DD summed it all up nicely. ‘ The Museo Histórico Militar de Sevilla (Military History Museum of Seville) at the Plaza de España may not be a large museum, but it's well worth a visit for anyone interested in military history. The exhibition offers an overview of Spain's military development with uniforms, weapons, models, and historical documents. Since admission is free, even those with limited time can pop in for a quick visit. ‘
Tomorrow we will try to slip out of the park.
