Wandering on

We are heading towards Gibraltar - we’ll arrive in nine days.  Gib is famous for many things, and in recent times, the Neanderthal presence. Our kissing cousins, and not just kissing, seem to have evolved about 400,000 years ago and died out about 40,000 BC.  The thing is, with these chaps is that new stuff is coming up about them all the time.

There are about 15 Neanderthal sites in Spain, probably more by the time you read this. The main three areas are the Cantabrian mountains, eastern Mediterranean coast and Andalusia. All sorts of evidence remains, including footprints - which may be from 275,000 years old - which were found near Huelva.

Recently a report has come out about the Des-Cubierta Cave. Neanderthals placed the top part of 35 animals including 28 bovines, 5 deer and two rhinos.  Why only the top of crania was placed is not yet known.

We are off to the beach.  Playa de Guadalmina.  It has a 3rd century Roman ruin and a 16th century tower and 3.9 stars. A week ago Jose Carlos gave five stars and said ‘Beautiful walks along the Coastal Path.’  Rafael was quiet pointed.  ‘If you don't know about beaches, don't comment; it's a Mediterranean beach, not a Caribbean one.’

Sonora Beach bar & grill numbers 2242 reviews and 4.2 stars.  A month ago Ralf staked a claim for four stars and wrote ‘A small, secluded beach bar halfway between Estepona and Marbella—a true hidden gem. The atmosphere is very relaxed and chill, with great music, large parasols, cozy cushions, and even a small fashion boutique. The bohemian design right by the sea is beautiful, full of vibrant colors and lush greenery, with a touch of Mexican-inspired hippie vibe – but without the hippie prices.’

We end the day near the Hotel GP [Glass Palace.] It has 11 reviews and 2.8 stars. This somewhat remarkable.  We will celebrate ivan’s five stars ‘Don't pay attention to the bad comments, the treatment is very good, I recommend it, for me it's a 10.’  It is five or one.  Diego gave one star. ‘Very bad service, very unhappy with everything. I felt ripped off, I would never go back.’
