The role of cricket in insurgent democracy explained

 It is another day of the straight road. I have been monitoring the Mabella Rugby Club. They are jolly active and been away for weekends for tournaments and good luck to them. So what about cricket?


Spain became an Affiliated member of the International Cricket Council, and became Associate Members in 2017.  This may be a slow burn as the first recorded match was in 1809 - between two British teams - part of the Duke of Wellington’s tour of that year. Various expat groups played each other until 1975.  Did the founding of the Madrid Cricket Club’s founding pave the way for the return to democracy? History will have to be the judge of that and  while it is mulling on, we will move on.

Spain went off to Austria to play in its first ECC Trophy, where they played Portugal - and lost by 63 runs. In 2019 Spain took place in their first T20 match and beat Malta by 7 wickets at the La Manga Club, Murcia. So far they have played 49 T-20 matches won 40 of them.  The highest team total in a T20 was last December, where they scored 290 for 3 - against Croatia. Mohammad Ihsan scored 160 in that match, which was about a fifth of his career total.  Funnily enough Croatia is the team Spain have played most [10 times], Germany next [7] and  the Isle of Man third [6].

Back to the road.  We are passing the livestock breeder, Cortijo Corbacho Grande. It has reviews from 3 to 9  years ago.  15 reviews. Two words. 8 years ago Anton said ‘Very deteriorated’.

Up the road is the El Palmetin. Two reviews. One and six years ago. Three words. Last year Bernat said ‘Very Good Place.’

We end the day near a large and modern graveyard.  The Cementerio Chciclana de la Frontera Cadiz .  Reviews include one 11 months ago by Merche, who was not happy having to move a relative and a year ago Francisco just said ‘Evil.’

Mini Pieces of Supposed tuna

  Pina de Ebro has something for everyone who enjoys the architecture of Spanish pueblos.  It has the tiny lanes, on which houses have been rebuilt for generations without a care for the needs of the modern motorist.  We have the pathways which have been tiled over but once were dirt tracks.  We have the modern suburban developments of low rise houses and 80s hopefully aspiring shacks.  First all, however, we have a park. Much a do about something

In 711 the full force of the Islamic tide swept from North Africa into Visigothic Spain.
