Into the summer

 We are looking for a way out of town and under the GR-30, but first, a park. 


We walked passed Parque de las Alquerias yesterday and we are still by it so, why not pop in.  1106 people have given it 4.3 stars. It appears to be at its busiest between 9 and 10pm.  Top words are ‘dogs’, ‘strolling’, ‘lawn’, kitchen garden’ and ‘swings.’  A week ago Pedro said ‘Beautiful park with views of Sierra Nevada, good location and parking’.   Generally people don’t say why they like it.  Lack of loos seems to have been an issue.  Loli summed it all up ‘A very large park with lots of grass, swings for children, and also for exercise. There's also another dog park inside. It's super cozy on the grass. They also have vegetable gardens inside the park.’


We have never been to a chess club and now is the moment to end that lack. The Club de Ajedrez Puerta Elvira gets a solid 5 from 38 people. Jose said ‘In addition to an excellent club where you can learn to play chess and develop at all levels (from children 3 years old and up), both the instructors and the club management make you feel like you're part of a big family. And the new facilities are spectacular, with very bright rooms, everything beautiful, brand new. Congratulations to the management for such magnificent facilities.’

Round the corner is a marker.  Mercadillo de la Chana https://mercadillos.org/mercadillo-la-chana is a wednesday morning sort of thing.  As only six people felt it worth reviewing the numbers are a little skewed.  Antonia went one star because of rubbish left behind.  Cart gave it four ‘Nice place for a stroll and to find lots of bargains along the way’  


Under the autovia we go and to one of those rows of commercial premises between a road and rail.  Here we find Sala El Tren.  Google describes it as a ‘concert venue’.  I suspect images of String Quartets would be amusingly misleading.  Yesterday Guillermo tried to be helpful.  ‘I like the venue, I like the acoustics, but on this occasion at least, although there are other reviews like this, they oversold the venue considering its capacity. The concert was on Friday, January 16, 2026. The concert had already started, and there were still many people waiting outside to get in; it was completely overcrowded. If an emergency had occurred, it was almost certain that something bad would have happened. This is constructive criticism, so they stop focusing so much on the profit and start maintaining the necessary conditions to guarantee safety measures.’ A Lopez was more positive. ‘First visit and it was great: spacious room, good stage, sound, lights, bar... I'm not giving it 5 stars because they don't have kalimotxo and because of the way they cleared people out. As soon as the concert ended, they turned on the lights and started ushering people out of the room; you couldn't even order water at the bar because they stopped serving. What a shame that the party ended so abruptly.’

We end the day near Club de Campo Eventos. It is, guess, an events venue.  705 people took the trouble to review it.Three weeks ago Luci said ‘It's a very pleasant place, the food is delicious, and there are always things for the children to enjoy. This time there was Santa's house, which for €3 kept them entertained for an hour.’  I spent a long time looking for a worded three starer. A year ago Laura said ‘We've been to the pool... and for €15 admission they really should change the sun loungers because instead of relaxing... they're as hard as a rock... you leave with your back completely wrecked’

Yesterday was the equinox. Today we have walking into the summer.

Mini Pieces of Supposed tuna

  Pina de Ebro has something for everyone who enjoys the architecture of Spanish pueblos.  It has the tiny lanes, on which houses have been rebuilt for generations without a care for the needs of the modern motorist.  We have the pathways which have been tiled over but once were dirt tracks.  We have the modern suburban developments of low rise houses and 80s hopefully aspiring shacks.  First all, however, we have a park.   In North Lincolnshire there is an OS square which is all but empty,  In a single corner stretches a few metres of power cables to spoil the virgin whiteness.  Today’s walk is not so blessed with flat calm.  We will see trees.  We will see ups.  Views are compulsory.  Houses aren’t.  Let's talk about Asturias in the years from 718 to 757. In 711 the full force of the Islamic tide swept from North Africa into Visigothic Spain. At the Battle of Guadalete King Roderic and much of the nobility were killed and the Iberian Peninsula collapsed before the all conquering crescent.  The thing is, Asturias is a long way from the main body of Spain.
