Explosive Orchards
We are heading for the Alhambra. Of course we are. To get there we are crossing the A-92 and head south, over the hills and valleys. A lot of today was taken in March ‘23 so enjoy the reality of today. Most of the start of today is amongst the blossoms on not quiet roads.
We are heading into El Fargue. El Farque is what is a carmen. I am quoting wiki in all:
‘A carmen is a type of urban dwelling typical of the city of Granada ( Spain ), with an adjoining green space, a garden and orchard combined, which constitutes an extension of the house, according to the classic definition of Seco de Lucena . [ ] The carmen is a space enclosed from the outside, surrounded by walls about two meters high, usually whitewashed, with lush vegetation. It is characteristic of the neighborhoods located on the hills of the city, Albaicín and Realejo , and therefore its land is usually arranged in terraced levels. "It is not only a garden, nor only an orchard" and "generally, it is not a luxury estate, but a small, single-family farm."
One of the reasons El Fraque grew was the 13km Aynadamar irrigation canal. It was begun around 1066 but it wasn’t completed until the some time in the reign of Abd Allah [1073-1090]. Because of this useful canal Alfonso XIII had built a gunpowder and explosives factory in El Fargue.
We needed a little something after all that. The Restaurante Padilla Restaurante de carnes en Granada. It gets 4.1 stars from 738 reviews. It opens from 8am to 6pm, everyday, apart from Friday and Saturday - when it closes at 10pm. A week ago Juan wrote ‘Good and fast service. Good prices. Room suitable for large groups and with a fireplace.’ Leo Messi, apparently, said ‘Great tapas at this classic roadside restaurant, and a very decent €11 set menu. The grilled food is fantastic. Thanks for letting us eat our set menu on the terrace, a really nice touch!’
Today the sun will set at 7.22pm. Tomorrow the sun will rise at 7.22am. The day will be 46 seconds longer than the night. Well, that is a bit of an inexact exactitude. Civil twilight will begin at 6.56am and end at 19.49pm.
