All the zip lines lack empathy

 It is a day where it feels so quiet, with gentle sun and a purity to the air. I suspect the Streetview boys and girls got up early when they went out in October 2019 to take these shots.




High up amid the pines we come, early on in our trek to Aventura Amazonia, because nothing says rain forest like Southern Spain. Now, I like direct translations. Sometimes they do things to English which are amusing, provoking or just wonderful. The phrase ‘the sensations’, as in the sensations around a situation or event, create a sort of indefinable shimmer.  In the case of Elvira, however, I think we lost something somewhere. ‘I went and was treated in a rude manner. The car has brought life back to many of the dying villages, although what the impact of commuters will be we will need more of an expert than me to say.   We will be skirting round the edge of Viznar, which is one such expanding suburban village.  It is near the place where Federico Gracia Lorca was murdered at the start of the Generals Coup, that developed into the the Civil War.  Since approaching the city I have had the line ‘His Granada’ buzzing in my head. It was part of a poem about Lorca that was on a reel in the Imperial War Museum during a Civil War exhibition.




The English wiki page on Viznar basically says ‘A few people lived here and Lorca didn’t.  They Spanish one mentions a neoclassical 18th century summer palace for the Archbishop of Granada.   955 people lived here in 2025. The 2023 elections saw 43% vote for the United Left, 33% for the PSOE and 20% for the PP. Vox got 19 votes.  The entrance to the town has been modelled around a bread oven.  We won’t go past it but I have included a picture.

Into town is the Palacio Del Cuzco.  33 people reviewed this small thing.  They gave it 4.3 stars. Colin sums up most Spanish regional things by saying ‘Beautiful.. would be nice to allow more regular public entry.’  Rainer added ‘Looks amazing what we managed to see through the gaps. Shame we could not go into the ancient Bishop's Palace.’  Gabriel ends this sorry story with ‘It's a shame it's private property and therefore not accessible, although it's possible to peek through the windows and get a sense of its beauty. If they ever open their doors to the public, I'll be happy to return.’


Down the hill we wind.  Horno de Viznar is described as a mutton barbecue restaurant.  This sounds fun.  http://cartadigitalmsm.es/1270  It gets 4.6 stars.  Three days ago Sara said ‘Much better than expected, each dish better than the last. The pâté and the Moroccan pastilla were delicious, everything homemade and prepared with care, and the suckling pig was simply spectacular. The service from the waiters was impeccable, and the atmosphere was wonderful. We will definitely be back.  


Going down further we are going to have some tracks and barely roads.


We will nip pass the Panaderia Diego Fernandez. A week ago Horeca reckoned ‘This factory produces the best products in Granada. They've been our main supplier for years (since we started), and their telesales and delivery service is excellent. They offer many delivery options and adapt to your business needs. Thanks to Diego Fernandez's team.’ Nuria added ‘Artisan workshop since 1927. Traditional products as well as modern ones. A pleasure to try any product made here.’   This seems an improvement on six years ago - when it got a few one stars.

 We emerge on to the GR-3103 and are about to cross the A-92.

Mini Pieces of Supposed tuna

  Pina de Ebro has something for everyone who enjoys the architecture of Spanish pueblos.  It has the tiny lanes, on which houses have been rebuilt for generations without a care for the needs of the modern motorist.  We have the pathways which have been tiled over but once were dirt tracks.  We have the modern suburban developments of low rise houses and 80s hopefully aspiring shacks.  First all, however, we have a park. Much a do about something

  In North Lincolnshire there is an OS square which is all but empty,  In a single corner stretches a few metres of power cables to spoil the virgin whiteness.  Today’s walk is not so blessed with flat calm.  We will see trees.  We will see ups.  Views are compulsory.  Houses aren’t.  Let's talk about Asturias in the years from 718 to 757. In 711 the full force of the Islamic tide swept from North Africa into Visigothic Spain. At the Battle of Guadalete King Roderic and much of the nobility were killed and the Iberian Peninsula collapsed before the all conquering crescent.  The thing is, Asturias is a long way from the main body of Spain.
