To die in La Manga or Croydon
We are a bit peak Spain today. A modern footpath and cycle path by a sorted out river. Flat fields, some just scrub, some cropped. Random tree planting. Neat and individually built villas. A barn left to wither like some installation piece. Occasional old cottages wondering what happened. So we approach Murcia city.
The population has been rising steadily since 1842. The late 19th century was a boom time as was the 1990s-2010s. Putting Murcia together with Cartagena, about 45% of inhabitants live in those two cities. About 12% of the populace are foreign nationals compared to Spain’s average of 4%. Ecuadorians make up a third of these, Moroccans 27% and Brits 6%. 80% identify as Catholics, although only a third say they practice.
It is good to see wiki is good at claiming people as their own. How should we rate this? Dennis Waterman lived in La Manga from 2015 to 2022. Should he count? Count Juan de la Cierva was at least born in Murcia [1895]. He invented the autogyro and died in Croydon. To be fair, he was not in an autogyro but a Dutch DC-2 which crassed, taking off, in heavy fog in 1936.

SrPepitoGrillo was unimpressed. ‘I was at a wedding; the food was poor, and when you asked for more, they said there wasn't any. The service was mediocre, with delays of over 15 minutes. The atmosphere, being a wedding, was nice.’
Amalia, on the other hand, was happy. ‘On Saturday, October 25th, we celebrated the wedding of my son Adrián and Azucena. It was a special day, and Nuria, the organizer, made it perfect and unforgettable. She was so kind and attentive to every detail for the bride and groom, and of course, for everyone there. Along with your team, you were fantastic from the very beginning. Of course, a big thank you to the waiters, who were very attentive, and their service and hospitality were impeccable. The food was superb; everything was wonderful Thank you so much.’
Tomorrow, the big city.
