Estoy Aqui
So, a quick jaunt along the side of the TF-1 and then up, by way of a Candlemas Bun. We begin in 2024 and quickly enter a track in 2013. The only thing I think that has changed is the chain across it.
We are passing the ‘Honey Boxing’ gym. Why bee products need a thumping I don’t know and no one is saying - three reviews, all unworded and five stars.
We are passing a bit of agriculture. Apart from small family plots and bananas [of more later] I have not noticed much so I had a look. An article in 2022 notes that after years of losing land, presumably to housing, the amount of farmland rose by 1119 hectares to 18 738 in total. That is still only 1% of the island, but more than you might imagine. https://tenerifeweekly.com/2022/04/11/tenerife-recovers-1100-hectares-of-crops-for-the-first-time-in-fifteen-years/ Orchards are the big thing - with 20% of land being given over to bananas, 15.6% vineyards and 12.7% fruit trees.
When a restaurant calls itself Estoy Aqui and we are, you have to pop in. It is LGBTQ+ friendly and has a website. https://guachinchesmodernos.com/ 174 reviews carry 4.1 stars. Lesia said ‘It was absolutely delicious, truly unforgettable. The octopus was divine, and the dessert—pure magic. Every bite was heavenly! The portions were generous too, which made the experience even better. Highly recommend!’ Man Gail says ‘Restaurant discovered by chance, highly recommended. Already the staff has been very attentive and smiling. Then the setting is pleasant. Finally, the dishes we tasted were generous, tasty and well presented. The hot sweet potato crown with almogrote and palm honey as a starter was as original as it was tasty, the grilled meats were tender and well seasoned. A real treat. We will come back!’
We are heading along one of those flatter areas where bars and restaurants crowd in. We will end by a bakery, the Pasteleria Virgen del Carmen. It only gets 3.3 stars from 22 reviews. Yasmina thinks it is pricy. ‘I bought two palm trees, two pachangas, two croissants and a donut stuffed with guava and they charged me €19, the price of the palm trees only appeared at €2.50 and the pachangas at €1.50. The calculation they did for me doesn't add up much to me. The sweets are good but the price is excessive. I won't buy there again.’ Last Christmas Sam was happier ‘came all the way from Güímar on foot because I'd heard great things about this place, and it certainly delivers. Today, being Christmas Day, there was a line, which indicates that people are satisfied. The product was very good and the price was very competitive. The two girls there were very friendly despite the workload. I was truly satisfied!.
We will stagger on.
