Authentic, affordable, and full of charm

 We are 500m above the sea, which is a little under 4km away.  The average temperature is 21oC - so it is not surprising northern Europeans have flocked here. The average high is 24oC and the record low is a chilly 12oC. This is taken from the Southern Airport, so is sea level figures.  We are in the rainy season, with 2.6cm of rain falling on two days.  Thank the lord we won’t be here next month.  3cm of rain falls in December over three and a half days.



We are wandering amid the houses.  Some are those traditional single storey blocky cottages found across Spain.  Some are slowly dissolving back into nature and some have been modernised.

The Parish church of St John’s https://www.obispadodetenerife.com/ gets lots of stars and few words.  Javier said ‘A unique church for its shape, the paintings on the altar, and the stations on the wall. They're unique and truly worth visiting. Thanks to the parish priest for his service. A 10/10.’




From San Juan to San Jose - this time a bar. Die Edelfeder was overwhelmed.   Pina de Ebro has something for everyone who enjoys the architecture of Spanish pueblos.  It has the tiny lanes, on which houses have been rebuilt for generations without a care for the needs of the modern motorist.  We have the pathways which have been tiled over but once were dirt tracks.  We have the modern suburban developments of low rise houses and 80s hopefully aspiring shacks.  First all, however, we have a park. One thing we noticed, especially with a small boy in tow, was the number of parks with interesting play equipment.  This is because, in Spain, people seem to like children.  This does make them a semi-public property and people feel free to indulge them with sweetmeats and pass comments. ‘I think sucking thumbs makes children look ugly’ said one elderly woman.’ My Spanish for ‘well desiccated prune face, no one asked you’ deserted me.  The play equipment is in the Plaza Pilarin Artigas.  Honestly I’ve looked and was giving u...
