Artificial Intelligence in a land of whimsey and wrong routes

Costa del Silencio is a small coastal resort town located in the municipality of Arona, in the south of Tenerife, one of the Canary Islands (Spain). It's a quieter, more laid-back destination compared to its bustling neighbors like Los Cristianos or Playa de las Américas.


Ok, I wondered what ChatGBT would have to say and I think you can say that the lack of spelling mistakes or reviews of car parks shows it for what it is.  Obviously it is a new technology. History does not leave us ‘Newcomen’s Steam Engine - rubbish, only good for moving water 2 stars.’ I had a student who got it to write homework. It was ok except it didn’t use examples from the course to back up the arguments - that and he barely wrote a word before - gave the game away.  A talk I attended reckoned even with limited and accurate data sources, it was not up to marking exams yet.  A new generation of computers was needed to make it effective.  Please feel free to quote this one way or another in fifty years.  



I probably should add it really wasn’t dealing with me putting ‘100 words on Costa del Silencio’, but dealt with it when I removed the English.



So, we have no way forward so we are going to have to backtrack to find a way along the coast.  This will be more fun as streetview indicates a fence has been built across our path by October 2024.


 We will pass Scorpio Bar.  It is a 12.30 to 7.30 sort of place.  Maeve felt if you weren’t English you really were not going to have a happy time.  Peter reckoned ‘Nice little bar to stop off at, reasonable prices. In fact it was the only bar open on the golf complex as we walked around it’



The Globe on the Golf [see what they did there!] gets 4.2 stars.    Seems to be a one or five star place - so here are one of each.


Aktan [2 months ago] ‘6 people came to have breakfast, the staff was rude, looked askance all the time, the food was not very tasty. We asked to open an umbrella because the sun was shining and they immediately started to appear, like, according to you, this is the sun, according to you, the sun is shining very strongly. In general, I do not recommend this restaurant.’


Lana [2 months ago]  Great food, drinks, service, atmosphere. Love the place, love the staff. My highest recommendations.

Mini Pieces of Supposed tuna

  Pina de Ebro has something for everyone who enjoys the architecture of Spanish pueblos.  It has the tiny lanes, on which houses have been rebuilt for generations without a care for the needs of the modern motorist.  We have the pathways which have been tiled over but once were dirt tracks.  We have the modern suburban developments of low rise houses and 80s hopefully aspiring shacks.  First all, however, we have a park. One thing we noticed, especially with a small boy in tow, was the number of parks with interesting play equipment.  This is because, in Spain, people seem to like children.  This does make them a semi-public property and people feel free to indulge them with sweetmeats and pass comments. ‘I think sucking thumbs makes children look ugly’ said one elderly woman.’ My Spanish for ‘well desiccated prune face, no one asked you’ deserted me.  The play equipment is in the Plaza Pilarin Artigas.  Honestly I’ve looked and was giving u...
