A shame, an irresponsibility, a crime, by the way.

We are going up and passed the TF-1. To that end we are going back on ourselves and over the motorway.

Tenerife mostly consists of inclines which have roads snaking up them and houses limpiting themselves on to any less than vertical slope.  It is surprising what suburbia can offer.  In this case, it is Drante Tatau tattoo shop. 38 reviews give 4.9 stars, so this is clearly a well liked inking joint,  Swantje said ‘We are very satisfied. Ana was always very friendly and open to suggestions for changes. The atmosphere was very nice and clean. The prior communication went smoothly and the three of us got an appointment very quickly. We are completely happy, not to mention the wonderful results. We would recommend Ana to anyone and would be happy to come back.’

As we climb we pass the local Guardia Civil post [8 reviews, 4 stars,]. Davina was impressed ‘Unbeatable treatment, friendly and attentive. Thank you for assisting me in these difficult times, it is nice to know that there are agents who are the pride of Spain and who know how to help citizens.’  Gusi was more critical ‘A guard caught my attention for riding a bicycle on the sidewalk.  Well done. I went down to the Causeway, and cars began to pass me at less than 20 centimeters, and the lady didn't care about that. A shame. An irresponsibility.  A crime, by the way,  In Razazul, right in front of the barracks, it happened.’

We are going across one of those bleak stretches of magnificent countryside, all rock and scrub.  The oldest rocks to have been found on Tenerife are estimated to date from around 7 million years ago. Volcanic eruptions piled up material until it rose above the surface in the regions of Teno and Anaga.

The middle part of the Island was  created by volcanic eruptions that took place some three million years ago, which gradually created the outline of Tenerife we know and love. The volcanic fissure activity of that time produced basalt material.

Half a million years ago, Tenerife's inherent vulcanism began to create volcanic cones: Pico Viejo and Teide were formed in the crater on Las Cañadas, and new flows centres emerged around the Island covering the land around them and pushing back the sea. It was at this time that Tenerife acquired its current outline.

We end the day near the Pizzeria Barranco.  It gets 4.3 stars from 72 reviews.   Bernard liked it ‘The food is delicious; we had pizza and pasta. The restaurant is right on the street. Despite living in the lower part of town, we walked and were able to burn off the calories right away.’  Tere was unhappy. ‘I had been eating at the place once and apart from the fact that they made a mistake with one of the pizzas, I ordered everything normal, but on Sunday we placed an order for pickup and the pizzas came with all the edges burned, no, the next thing, completely charred, plus all the prawns they put on them were half-peeled with a lot of hairs from the prawns. Honestly wasted money we practically threw away all the pizzas.’  Please, go there yourself, order a pizza and find the truth of this.  I am prepared to eat pizza at home as a kind of control group.
