On the audience for the humble scribe and the interests in nothing to review in Asturias
I write this to justify and give form to my desire to run down rabbit holes and gaze at small cafes and tiny ethnographic museums. I also hope to give you, wonderful 76 people on Facebook, something to read which will not cause any upset - a rare thing these days, I set the blog up for Sarah, who wasn’t on Facebook, and probably doesn’t read this, but I tend to overcommit and so it goes on. https://theroadtosantiargoandback.blogspot.com/
Now, the blog is different in that it has less photos and I get to think up titles. I usually pick something from a reviews, such as ‘The trees throw branches and fat seeds that hinder the elderly people’ or quotation ‘Incompetent, despotic and short-sighted’ Some are a summary of the thing - such as ‘Thirty Percent Cannibalism.’ The thing is. Occasionally, people read them.
Usually a person has read my blog when I check back over a fortnight, sometimes not. Ten days ago three people read The Submarine is yellow. I repeat ‘The Submarine is yellow’ and ‘ We are more than satisfied with the type of grass.’ 10th April’s ‘To Boldly Go’ got 11!. 18th November 2024 saw 16 people check up on our visit to Revilla de Pienza. 24 people came with us on 21st August 2024 to read ‘The cakes are super good’ in Gijon. This is nothing compared to the 135 people who saw us chat about the Asturian revolt of 718 for want of google reviews. https://theroadtosantiargoandback.blogspot.com/2024/06/much-do-about-something.html
We are heading into the less picturesque suburbs of Callosa d'en Sarria, rather than the Medievalish bit in the centre. It is the first town on the edge of the hills. We enter it by way of the increasing amount of covered agriculture and it has grown from about 3900 in 1857 to 7300 today.
We are by a 4.7 star bakery. The Panaderia Rojas Sl inspired Natalia to write ‘Everything looked great and homemade, we tried the mintxo (which must be ordered in advance), the cream ensaimadas and the coca farcida and everything was delicious, and very good attention from the shop assistants.’ Guilef added ‘Their shortbreads are excellent. Also their takeaway dishes: crusted rice, meatballs with tomato or lasagna. I also love their salad or their peso coquettes. All very rich’
So we will head on and out.
