Some car-free exercise
The thing with the Google Plonk is that, unlike Satnav, which sends heavy goods vehicles down narrow alleyways and turns decent, law abiding cars, into cross country adventurers, it sends us to places we would choose to walk - slightly dubious suburbs, unprepossessing pathways - but enlightens us as to the nature of Spain without having to deal with consequences of our questing spirit. Today feels a bit like that as we weave from major road to farm vehicle track and a bit of new development cycle way.
We are going to approach Valencia from the sea so first we need to head in that general direction. We start by heading south on an arterial road. Lets nip into the China Town Restaurant. I have always wanted to taste a Spanish ‘Chinese’ to see how it has adapted to the climate, in much the same way a British one has. Trouble is, that would mean having to not eat Spanish and the Chinese as never one out. We might be out of luck here as the website claims the menu is ‘authentic’ https://chinatownmeliana.com/
Two months ago Ricardo was impressed. ‘Your classic Chinese restaurant Spanish style, with arroz 3 delicias and all the classics (pollo Al limón, cerdo agridulce, etc. Just that it is good price, they have a menu for 2 people with lot of food (we didn’t finish and you pay less than 15 euros per person. Also, probably the quickest service I’ve seen. Definitely worth if you are in Meliana and hungry for Asian food.’
Not all is perfect in paradise.. A month a go Daniel gave four stars. ‘Very good food but service a little slow, I understand that on a holiday they go around like headless chickens, and it is due to lack of organization in the room. But otherwise good. But the tall waiter in white understood the stress of the day but he spoke to us in an unfriendly tone because we told him that we were waiting more than 30 minutes waiting for the food. And if what is not normal is that if they see that they cannot cope with the tables that are already waiting to be served, they should let more people in, knowing how the waiters are doing.’
We are cutting into Meliana and across the railway. It is home to about 11000 people and did the transformation from farming to industry, kicked started by the arrival of Miguel Nolla Bruixet’s mosaic factory, which copied British production methods. The only other thing Wiki notes for the 19th century is cholera.
As we zigzag our way out we will hit a cycle path, well developed and sign posted. It has a drinking fountain where we head off it again. This fountain has four reviews. Gregorio was thankful. ‘It's a great way to stay hydrated while exercising along the greenway. Whether walking, running, or cycling, this greenway is a great way to get some car-free exercise, surrounded by gardens from Valencia to Puzol. Thanks to the city council for helping people exercise and allowing us to drink water from this fountain.’
We will end the day with a 2008-2022 Candlemas Bun.
