Google Plonk explained

We are advancing into one of those open spaces created by design, not accident, that every self righteous Spanish town needs for a fiesta. This is especially true since the place went from its easy going 3000 or so populace in the period 1850-1900, creeping up to 5500ish in 1950 and rocketing to the 21000+ it has today.

Until the 1950s this was a land of orchards, with almonds, olives, carobs and vines.  Citrus came with better irrigation but the real economic growth was achieved the Cointra factory started making household appliance and things of clay.  People moved in from Andalusia and Castilla-La Mancha. Cointra closed in 2012 but food, automotive and cosmetics have moved in.

Like all proper pueblos, they have a football field named after a favoured son.  Jose Claramunt was a midfielder for Valencia between 1966 and 1978. He won a league medal [1970-71] and Generalisimo one [1967] with the club.  Claramunt was capped 29 times for Spain and was the first Valencian to captain the national squad.  His name-sake stadium opened in 2001.

This walk is organised by what I like to think of as the ‘Google Plonk’  I pick up the ‘directions’ maker from one day and extend it about 3.6km in the next direction with out much idea where it will end. Sometimes I will go a wrong way and have to go back on myself. I like to think this adds a touch of authenticity.  Today, when doing the streetview, I went the wrong way and walked down a parallel street.  I am sticking to that and we are going to visit Carrusel, a Restaruante of note.

Mostly it is a 10am till midnight sort of place.  The menu can be found here. https://lacartade.es/carrusel  The ham croquets are 2.50, a racion of Russian Salad will cost 9 euros and the chicken 16.  A week ago Ana said ‘A wonderful dinner with exquisite service from Francis. Very friendly.’   About the same time Jose reckoned ‘We were there for a birthday party and Francis served us. Everything was great. We'll recommend him.’

Out of town we go. We will have a new busy road to dash over and a Candlemas Bun to enjoy.

We will carry a long the Carrer Francesc Climent tomorrow.
