No, not again.

 We are going to Xilxes, which exists to confuse English speakers and confound Scrabble players.  Xilxes is old, but you feel it shouldn’t, as it appears to be all samey apartments by the sea.   This is one of those twins that were about 3-4km from the beach that then developed a maritime suburb when the hand full of fishermen were pushed out by tourists and retirees.



Oh, what the Hell, lets mention inland Chilches.  It was on a Roman road and a bronze statuette of Mercury was found nearby. At some point after 711 my unreferenced source says it has 4 farmsteads.  Rebellious folk burnt in 1265 and the Barbary pirates did for it in 1583.Today it has about 3000 inhabitants.




We start the day by the Camping Los Naranjos campsite.  Two months ago Ken wrote ‘Came as the site was having a new swimming pool built (due to open summer) so it's difficult to judge it with contractors working on site. What I can say is that the staff were very friendly, toilet and showers clean and a nice restaurant/bar.’   More ominous was a 3 star review from 4 days ago that just said ‘No, not again.;

They certainly have other events and a dull monument.  They also have Saint Agatha of Catania as their patroness.  She is one of your third century Virgin martyrs who had her boobs cut off.  In Galaica, and no doubt elsewhere, you can buy cheeses in the shape of her lost body parts.





That’s it really.  Beaches, apartments and camping.

  Pina de Ebro has something for everyone who enjoys the architecture of Spanish pueblos.  It has the tiny lanes, on which houses have been rebuilt for generations without a care for the needs of the modern motorist.  We have the pathways which have been tiled over but once were dirt tracks.  We have the modern suburban developments of low rise houses and 80s hopefully aspiring shacks.  First all, however, we have a park. One thing we noticed, especially with a small boy in tow, was the number of parks with interesting play equipment.  This is because, in Spain, people seem to like children.  This does make them a semi-public property and people feel free to indulge them with sweetmeats and pass comments. ‘I think sucking thumbs makes children look ugly’ said one elderly woman.’ My Spanish for ‘well desiccated prune face, no one asked you’ deserted me.  The play equipment is in the Plaza Pilarin Artigas.  Honestly I’ve looked and was giving u...
