Mudejar Stars
I admire a proper review. No fuss, no need to over egg the pudding, just plain speaking. The Veredero y Punto Limpio de Teruel aka recycling centre aka dump, gets 11 reviews and 3,5 stars and Rolando says ‘it is what it is’
That’s it. A walk in the hills and a bit of a nature and the A-23. Let's talk about it.
The A-23 is called the Mudejar. Mudejar, as you know, is a term used for the population of Muslims who didn’t convert during the Christian kingdom expansion in the late Middle Ages. The motorway runs from Sagunto on the east coast in the Valencian region through to the Somport Tunnel to France.
The A-23 follows the same route as two national roads, the N-234 between Sagunto and Daroca - Retascón , and the N-330 between Retascón and Jaca . Its construction began in 1997 from Sagunto and currently 4 sections in the north of the province of Huesca remain to be inaugurated, two under construction, one is in the project stage and the other not so advanced.
So why Mudejar? In several sections of the highway, under some bridges and overpasses, sculptures called Mudejar stars can be found/ They were created in 2007 by the sculptors José Luis Gracia and Francisco Javier Bueno. [ . One of the most notable sculptures is the Mudejar Star of Singra, located at kilometer 154, is 15 meters high, 18 long and 45 meters at its widest part represents a curve of the highway inside a Mudejar star, designed by the artist Julio Tapia Gasca in 2000.
Tomorrow Teruel.
