Welcome to Canada

It is a bit of a day for barren upland and endless dry fields.  We will go to 1381m above sea level - which is about 40m higher than Ben Nevis, although it has less people taking photos of themselves here.  There is a village, Canada Vellida, which we can’t see from the road.  40 people live there today [13 women and 27 men], In 1960 there were 208.  They appear to have a mayor and single councillor.  Miguel Morte Lopez is that Mayor, and has been since 2015.  He was in PAIR  [The Aragonese Party] till 2023 when he joined the PP.  I have tried to use the website for the pueblo but nothing appeared.  https://www.todoslosayuntamientos.es/aragon/teruel/canada-vellida

We have talked about what Spain sells but what does it buy.  The answer to that is:

  1. Mineral fuels including oil: US$63.4 billion (13.4% of total imports)

  2. Vehicles: $51.4 billion (10.9%)

  3. Machinery including computers: $45 billion (9.5%)

  4. Electrical machinery, equipment: $42.5 billion (9%)

  5. Pharmaceuticals: $23.8 billion (5%)

  6. Plastics, plastic articles: $16.9 billion (3.6%)

  7. Organic chemicals: $12.4 billion (2.6%)

  8. Optical, technical, medical apparatus: $12.2 billion (2.6%)

  9. Iron, steel: $12.1 billion (2.6%)

  10. Clothing, accessories (not knit or crochet): $11.3 billion (2.4%)

The biggest exporters to Spain are Germany (12.7% of the Spanish total), France (9.8%), mainland China (8.5%), Italy (7.7%), Netherlands (7%), United States of America (5.5%), Portugal (4.2%), Belgium (3.7%), Morocco (2.2%), Poland (2.18%), United Kingdom (2.17%) and Türkiye (2%).

Tomorrow.  More stuff.
