We are heading towards Pear Trees of Alfambra - or Perales del Alfambra as the untranslated version has it. We will go down the main street, which, one can imagine, was once really really crowded before the N-420 was reworked and taken away from the place.
The nineteenth century GSHD tells us:
PERALES: 1st with town hall in the province, diocese and Jewish part of Teruel (6 leg.), aud. territory of Zaragoza, and central Aragon. Situated in the middle of a plain in the valley formed by the Alfambra River . The climate is somewhat cold due to the north wind, and the most common illnesses are colds and pneumonia. It is made up of 142 houses of regular construction; a primary school attended by about 30 children; a parish church (San Blas) served by a priest with entrance and regular attendance and provision, and a cemetery that in no way harms public health. The territory borders on the north with Visedo and Puentes Calientes; E. Galvez; S. Villalba Alta, Urrios and Alfambra , and W. Camañas. The land is all dry land, but its pastures are of excellent quality. Roads lead to the neighboring towns in fair condition. Mail is received from the province's mainland. Produce : wheat, rye, barley, oats, lentils, turnips, and potatoes; sheep, goats, and cattle, and small game are also raised. Pop .: 134 residents, 537 livestock. Tax wealth : 58,881 rs.
Today 271 people dwell here - which is roughly the same since 1991. Up until 1980 the place wandered along at around 500-550. The place has had a PSOE Mayor since 2007. The current one is Pedro Manuel Polo Inigo. The Council is split between four Socialists and three PPs. Pedro Manuel serves on the Regional Executive of the PSOE and so we can find out more about him. https://aragonpsoe.es/el-partido/conocenos-ejecutiva-regional/ To quote it…

We won’t be visiting a bar - as that is on the road away from town. The supermarket, Supermercado Coaliment gets 4.8 stars from 26 reviews. Six months ago Elena said ‘The store is nice. Everything is very clean and tidy. You find a variety of products. The section of quality cheeses and sausages from the area stands out. I bought a delicious sheep cheese, made in the same town of Perales, and a very delicious sausage with mushrooms. The prices are good and the service is exquisite. Highly recommended!’
