Transitional Power

We are going down and up.. Along the N-420.  We will not be going that far because the new road goes through a tunnel and, although I suspect you could walk round it, Google says no.  To that end out journey - which entails rising  375m - will follow the old road, which is being allowed to rot, and then off on a track.

There is not a lot to review.  The photo of the wind farm above us reminds of driving round the Welsh valleys in the winter, bleached and straw grey. The people from Google took the photo in October 22. The windfarm gets an unworded five star review.  So, that’s that.  What shall we talk about.  How about coal mining?  I went in search of the usual wiki article to mess about with and extract the goodness - it was not to be.  This is the year that coal is due to be phased out.  This follows the creation of a transition strategy of 2018, which followed the end of EU subsidies.  This year their six operating units in four coal plants generating 2115mw of electricity.  Mining continues and in March five miners were killed in an explosion in Asturias.

As we pass the windfarms I can report last year a proposal to build Spain’s largest farm in Spain in Teruel.

Tomorrow we continue onwards.
