Mostly sheep

Sometimes I chat to the students about Spain and they have an image of Spain, not surprisingly, built around holidays. Spain is sunshine, pools and fizzy drinks.  We have affection for what we know. I think I have a deep rooted affection for the Spain of higher attitude villages in late autumn or winter sun; a Spain of leafless trees, bleached out grass and the sharpness of the air, bright, cold sun.  I say all this because today will be mostly spent pottering along a tree lined river in the embrace of October 2014.  But first, town.

We will pass the townhall of Cuevas Labradas.  This Mayor has, unlike their neighbour, given us a welcome.

Through these lines, we welcome you to the website of the Cuevas Labradas Town Council . We are committed, to the best of our ability, to technological innovation and the modernization of our town. Therefore, the promotion and revitalization of this tool as an information and communication resource is a basic and fundamental objective.

We can access the internet wherever we want; the time has definitely come to adapt to new technologies. Cuevas Labradas was lagging behind in this regard, but on the other hand, this will bring us up to date today. The goal of this website is not to remain a whim, but rather to be an effective and attractive work tool for anyone who visits it.

A cordial greeting

Lucia Castellote López,  Mayor of Cuevas Labradas

The website informs me that the place has 36 farms, most family owned.  About a third of the community is arable land on which is grown winter cereals - with a bit of fruit and veg near the river.  3500 beasties are farmed, of which, 3000 are sheep.  This also a commuter village for Teruel.

Lamb and ham are the meats of choice and the website has this to say on the former.  ‘Ternasco de Aragón refers to all lamb meat certified by the Regulatory Council of the Geographical Indication Ternasco de Aragón, originating from three native breeds: Rasa Aragonesa, Roya Bilbilitana and Ojinegra de Teruel.  As for the culinary qualities of this meat, its pink appearance, low fat content, and very mild flavor stand out, given that the lambs are fed exclusively on their mother's milk and grain

Next door is the bar and grill  It identifies as LGBTQ+ friendly and woman owned.   Aventura en Familia said, five months ago,

After 5 days touring Teruel and its surroundings, I have to say that I choose this bar. We called and the kitchen closed in less than half an hour, and we were 20 minutes from the bar. When the girl told us that we were not from the area and that we were going with two small children, she told us that she would wait for us without a problem. When we arrived, my husband and I were all laughing because from the outside we could see the typical town bar where when you enter, being a stranger they look at you, hahaha.

Two adults and two children entered, the bar is not very big but the tables it had were all occupied, and between the owner and the clients (a love of people) they made a space for us and placed us at a table. The girl, Sonia, was amazing, she explained to us very well what she had to eat and offered my little ones a meal to their liking, a plate of sausages and homemade fries that they ate with great pleasure. We ordered tipilla, which was very well prepared, oxtail croquettes that are exquisite, melting in the mouth, fried fish that we loved, and that day was my husband's birthday, and Sonia the owner worked on it, He brought us a delicious cake, and we all sang his birthday to him. At the surrounding tables the customers were super friendly and everyone went out of their way to make us feel great. I have to mention the lady sitting next to me who even invited us to come back to her house again, and it was a lady's love. They closed the bar and let us finish our cake and our coffee inside, quietly with our little ones, because it was 8gados outside on the street. In conclusion, A SUPER SUCCESS TO GO THERE. Thank you Sonia and your partner for everything, we will return and we will go again. And thanks to the lady of the beautiful stone house because we feel like we've been in the little town all our lives. It was fantastic! We will always carry you in our memories! THANK YOU

The owner replied ‘Thank you very much for your rating and comments, you are a loving family with sweet and very polite children. We hope you return sometime and you already know that you will feel at home here. I hope you will like the scheduled visits and that you have really enjoyed your well-deserved vacation.

We wish you the best. Thanks family’
