 It is a day where, should you manage to walk in a straight line, gazing at olive trees, then wow! This is your living your best life day.  For anyone else, let's look around for some local colour.  These chaps were born in Calanda.

Gaspar Sanz  was born on 4th April 1640 and died in Madrid in 1710),  He was a composer , guitarist and organist of the Spanish Baroque . He studied music, theology and philosophy at the University of Salamanca , where he was later appointed professor of music. He wrote three books of pedagogy and works for Baroque guitar that form an important part of the current classical guitar repertoire according to the best musicians on guitar techniques.



Antonio María Cascajares y Azara  was born on 2nd March 1834 and died in Calahorra in 1901)   He was a Spanish theologian, prelate and writer , of the habit of Calatrava ,   He was prior of the Spanish Military Orders based in Ciudad Real (titular bishop of Dora ), bishop of Calahorra and cardinal-archbishop of Valladolid .  He was also a senator. 



José Asensio Lamiel was born in 29th January 1924  and died on 26th August 2020 was a painter and sculptor . [ He began his studies at the School of Applied Arts and Artistic Trades in Zaragoza . He obtained a scholarship from the Provincial Council of Teruel and studied at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts of San Carlos in Valencia , and then at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts of San Fernando in Madrid . 


In the 1960s, he moved to Colombia , taking advantage of an official contract, practicing his activity on the continent for six years. From 1966 onwards, he carried out several works and exhibitions in the United States . Upon returning to Spain, he took up residence in Alcalá de Henares, where he continued to develop his work as a painter and sculptor. He died in that city on August 26, 2020.

  Pina de Ebro has something for everyone who enjoys the architecture of Spanish pueblos.  It has the tiny lanes, on which houses have been rebuilt for generations without a care for the needs of the modern motorist.  We have the pathways which have been tiled over but once were dirt tracks.  We have the modern suburban developments of low rise houses and 80s hopefully aspiring shacks.  First all, however, we have a park. One thing we noticed, especially with a small boy in tow, was the number of parks with interesting play equipment.  This is because, in Spain, people seem to like children.  This does make them a semi-public property and people feel free to indulge them with sweetmeats and pass comments. ‘I think sucking thumbs makes children look ugly’ said one elderly woman.’ My Spanish for ‘well desiccated prune face, no one asked you’ deserted me.  The play equipment is in the Plaza Pilarin Artigas.  Honestly I’ve looked and was giving u...
