But what is this?

 Gargallo exists mostly to be along roads.  The old town stretches along the Calle Mayor, peering down into the valley below.  The rest of the town exists along the N-211 and most of today’s activities will take place along this tiny stretch of existence. I suppose we better have some details about Gargallo before we enter its fleshpots and sinks of iniquity so here goes. 



Pablo Gargallo was Spanish sculptor born in 1881 and who died in 1934.  He comes from Maella [we’ve been there]  Gargallo developed a style of sculpture based on the creation of three-dimensional objects from pieces of flat metal plate, and he also used paper or cardboard. Some of these sculptures have a form of cubism. For example, only one half of a face may be shown, and it may have only one eye. He also made more traditional sculptures in bronze, marble and other materials/


Ah, wrong one.  Gargallo has a dwindling population of just 87, according to the 2024 National Institute of Statistics.  The Natural heritage of the place translates as ‘The Turret’, The source of the Escuriza river and swamp.  It is a place with two museums and we will go to one of them.

The Jamones Los Alcores claims to have paring for the museo but is more a ham warehouse.  Jaime reckoned, five months ago, that it was a ‘Good place to buy regional products from Teruel, normal prices!’  Alex was less happy with the vagaries of supply and demand.  ‘A 2 liter fanta 4.14 euros. But what is this? It was in the refrigerator but come on they shouldn't charge more than 2 euros. They spend a lot.’ I would like to add, at no extra charge, that Spain puts 4.5g per 100ml in Fanta Orange, just like the UK.  Poland the Baltic states go lower, with 4.1, while Norway has 11, Ukraine 11.6 and Italy 11.8.

The Bar Moliner is just a short stroll away.  125 people give it 4.6 stars. MAria reckoned, a month ago, ‘A delicious meal prepared with love. Impeccable treatment’. About the same time Jose Maria added ‘Good lunches, cleanliness, good service and good quality’

Mini Pieces of Supposed tuna

  Pina de Ebro has something for everyone who enjoys the architecture of Spanish pueblos.  It has the tiny lanes, on which houses have been rebuilt for generations without a care for the needs of the modern motorist.  We have the pathways which have been tiled over but once were dirt tracks.  We have the modern suburban developments of low rise houses and 80s hopefully aspiring shacks.  First all, however, we have a park.
