A place where time stops

We are wandering through Castel de Cabra, where Streetview dares not to go, which is a shame, as I’m sure its 84 people would turn out to cheer them along.  This is yet another town that has crashed from the 534 of 1960, half the population being gone by 1980 and the others by the 2020s.  They have a town council which has returned 4 socialists since 2003 and one opponent, usually the PP candidate.  Francisco Rodriguez Perez has been mayor since 1987.  https://www.casteldecabra.es/

According to the town website human occupation goes back to the Iberians and Romans.  Peter II gave the place to the Order of Santiago.  We’ve missed the San Blas Fesitval, 3rd February, when bonfires, picnics and dancing were to be had.  The Feast of Assumption is way off in August.

As we enter the town we pass the hermitage of St John the Baptist and will stop at the Bar El Espillego, before plunging into the depths. The bar is described as being temporarily closed, so we better turn round and get going south.  We will pass the town hall - Alvaro leaves this review ‘This town is better than any other and anyone who argues with me is because it hasn't been there, good barbecue’

Nearby is the Bar Castel.  It is open and will close at midnight.  Sergio is clearly a fan and we will let him have his head.

Bar Castel is the jewel of the town, a corner that you cannot miss if you visit the area! This charming bar perfectly combines the warmth of a family place with the quality and good taste you could expect in a big city. From the moment you arrive, you are greeted by a welcoming atmosphere, with warm lights and decor that blends rustic and contemporary impeccably.

Bar Castel is not only the best place to enjoy a good drink, but also a meeting point for locals and visitors. The attention is first class; They make you feel like part of the family from the first greeting. And what can we say about the drinks: the cocktails are wonderful, prepared with dedication and with fresh ingredients that highlight each flavor. If you are a wine lover, their selection is excellent, highlighting local labels that will make you discover new favorites.

Plus, Bar Castel knows how to make every night special. From small live music sessions to themed events, there is always something that will surprise you. And if you're lucky, you might come across a local festival that makes the experience even more memorable.

In short, Bar Castel is not just a bar; It is a place where time stops, where you can enjoy a pleasant chat, laugh with friends and make new memories. If you are in the village, this is the place to go to feel the true local spirit. A corner of happiness that will make you want to return again and again

With all that we will leave, passing the 16th century church and leave town for the south.  The place is amid fairly impressive geography, so I’ve put a picture.
