Very friendly, helpful and knowledgeable
Mazaleon topped 1650 people in 1930. This fell sharply to 710 by 1970 and has gently ambled down to 500 since then. To be hones the town’s website needs a bit of work, as does the wiki page. I’m sure this is something that Popular Party mayor.. Rosa Maria Orona Nieto could look into. It does have a list of holidays, which include today, Maundy Thursday, tomorrow, Good Friday. Monday, marked as a local festival and Wednesday, the Day of Aragon. https://www.foro-ciudad.com/teruel/mazaleon/calendario-laboral-2025.html
To be fair, for the inquisitive miner after truth the website has some nuggets. A survey of the buildings show most were built between 1900 and 1909 - although it does make you wonder if that includes prior to 1900 - maybe lots of people just visited somewhere and got inspired as the Twentieth Century started. A great rebuilding of over a quarter of the town came between 1970 and 1989. The seasonal maximum of inhabitants is about 1200, Half the residents were born here, 15% were from the province and 16% from abroad. In 2022 60 of these foreign-born inhabitants were Moroccan, four from the UK and three from the Dominican Republic.
Look, it is about 7m off our path but we could do with a drink so let up nip into Bar d’Angelo. It appears to be busiest around 9pm. It gets 4.2 stars from 106 reviews. None months ago the lack of olives made Estanislao very sad. Neil gave it 4 stars 11 months ago. ‘Great sandwich's and nice Pizza in a clean well kept bar. Menu del dia is available as well’
OK. we need a lie down and over the road are the Mazaleon Rural Apartments. They have 5 reviews, with an average of five stars; are marked as LGBTQ+ friendly and have a website. https://mazaleonrural.com/ There is the Picasso Apartment, for two people, with street and landscape views and an open plan art deco apartment. I could be tempted as it is for 1-2 people. The Goya apartment is for 2-4 people, with a double bed and two singles, so it mughr be a squeeze if you all come along. Dr Bernadette Strain - which is such a brilliant name said ‘We stayed in Picasso apartment for 5 days. Neil and Rachel should be proud of the way they have transformed this apartment into a beautiful, comfortable and amazing facility to spend time in. The apartment has everything you need in terms of cooking and washing facilities- all of which are brand new. Neil and Rachel are very friendly, helpful and knowledgeable of the surrounding area/villages.’
Onwards we go. Pablo Rubio Aliaga’s pharmacy also gets 5 stars. The top review on google came seven years ago. ‘Pablo speaks English and German fluently. He is always keen to chat.’ Peter Hone said, 4 years ago. ‘I don't usually write reviews about stores, this pharmacy deserves one. I had to urgently find medicine for my mother-in-law who was on vacation in a nearby town. This pharmacy was on duty. What a discovery! The pharmacist helped me, advised me and got me the medication I needed with outstanding kindness and professionalism. Customer service of 10. Highly recommended.’
We will wander up the hill, where streetview dares not tread and end outside CONTRAGRI. Amparo Hernández. It has a facebook page. https://www.facebook.com/CONTRAGRI/ It was last updated in 2022.
