The centre of communications
We are heading for Gandesa. Gandesa was the objective of the Republican Offensive when they crossed the river. It is the chief local town and a communications hub. When the Allies crossed the Rhine they did so with a five day artillery barrage against an enemy on their last legs. Like any offensive, it runs to a halt as increasing disorder affects the attacking force as they lose men and material and the element of surprise. The Republicans ran into Gandesa and the Fascists stopped the advance.
The town existed before the 1938. In 1319 Prince Jaime married Princess Leonor, daughter of Ferdinand IV. The wedding was known as the ‘Farce of Gandesa’, mostly because Prince Jaime fled the church after the ceremony, leaving only a glove. The glove is now on Gandesa’s flag.
We will not bypass the place but go into the centre of the town. We will pass the English Castle School. https://www.englishcastle.org/ They have two reviews - 5 stars - with no words. The Cooperativa de Gandesa Agrobotiga - which has 531 reviews and 4.5 stars. https://www.coopgandesa.com/visites 23 hours ago gemma wrote ‘Highly recommended! The building is very beautiful. Jaume gave us a very pleasant and understandable explanation. At the end, whoever wanted did a wine tasting.’
Lets do cake. The Forn i Pastisseria Federicois thought of in a 4.5 stars so
rt of a way. Antonio is only 3 stars impressed. A month ago he wrote ‘Every time I passed by about 10 times a year I stopped to buy carquinyolis. But a couple of years ago I stopped going. They used to be very good with "real" bread and now it's a floury bread. It doesn't have a bad product, but I used to stop for that one and I'm not interested in stopping anymore’ Around the same time Soraya gave five stars and said ‘Simple cafeteria but with very good products and service.’
So we leave Gandesa and move on.
