The marvel of the road

 Crossing the river, on a narrowish bridge, we will pass through the suburbs - with a quick about turn to see Maella on the hilltop.  




First we will pass the Piscina Municipal de Maella.  It has no reviews.  I have been chasing up web pages but most are at least 4 years old. In 2021 it opened on 28th June.  A season ticket for the over 12s was 32 euros or 4 euros a day.  Under 8s go free. It seems to open from 11.30am to 8pm.






On the way out we will pass a furniture maker, Carpinteria A. Munoz.  There are no reviews.




Today we cross the uplands - rising 68m, marvel and the reconstruction of the roadway, carving a path through the landscape, then drop 54m as we head into the wider Ebro valley.  When we’ve done with the marveling let's pause to note that the Moors brought new varieties of olives to Iberia .





Olive oil exports accounted to 6 billion euros in 2023/24, a huge increase, mostly due to the rise in olive oil prices.  Most Spanish olive oil goes to Italy, then the US, with exports to French and Portugal increasing. Spain also imports olive oil from Portugal, Tunisia and Turkey.

We cross the Rio Porma and into Villarente and Puente Villarente. Mini Pieces of Supposed tuna

  Pina de Ebro has something for everyone who enjoys the architecture of Spanish pueblos.  It has the tiny lanes, on which houses have been rebuilt for generations without a care for the needs of the modern motorist.  We have the pathways which have been tiled over but once were dirt tracks.  We have the modern suburban developments of low rise houses and 80s hopefully aspiring shacks.  First all, however, we have a park. One thing we noticed, especially with a small boy in tow, was the number of parks with interesting play equipment.  This is because, in Spain, people seem to like children.  This does make them a semi-public property and people feel free to indulge them with sweetmeats and pass comments. ‘I think sucking thumbs makes children look ugly’ said one elderly woman.’ My Spanish for ‘well desiccated prune face, no one asked you’ deserted me.  The play equipment is in the Plaza Pilarin Artigas.  Honestly I’ve looked and was giving u...
