Too early for the fires....again

Alfaro is the ome for about 10,000 people.  It has the general background you would expect. Prehistoric people arrived, carefully put down some small pieces of pot, dug a few holes and moved on.  When Tiberius Sempronius Gracchus arrived, his Romans thumped the locals and founded the town of Graccurris.  It became an important military centre for giving he Celtiberians what for and  so got to have some nice things, like a mint and the three temple complex with 25x50m ritual pool.  It was one of the few towns loyal to the 2nd Republic and so was victim to the Fasc from Navarre and Logrono.

We are still too early for a bonfire, but not too early to make a request.  To quote the town website. ‘On Friday, January 17, 2025, the San Antón bonfires will take place, which will begin with the distribution of red sausage, bacon and roast potatoes at 6:30 p.m. in Plaza San Francisco.  The deadline for making individual requests will be from December 16, 2024 to January 9, 2025, from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the OAC of the town hall or through the Electronic Office. Registration

We’ve not talked about the stalks but they do in Alfaro.  Apparently there are 120 nests and 500 stalks in the breeding season.  The church of San Miguel Arcangel is particularly a favoured site and the nests add 500 kilos to the weight load on the roof. Like the stalks, the number of people has been steadily rising since the 4200 in 1842.  The current mayor is Maria Yolanda Preciado Moreno of the Popular Party.  The PP and PSOE have generally swapped after two terms.  Currently the PP have about 55% of the vote, PSOE 30% and UI 8%.  Those keen on transport may wish to know the bus service is free in the summer and the only cab rank is in the Plaza de Espana.

As we are missing out on tomorrows roast potatoes lets pop into the Restaurante Graccurris https://restaurantegraccurris.es/ The google translate says it is the Charming Kitchen - which is not the mystic vibe i think they were going for,    here is the menu https://restaurantegraccurris.es/menu/   Two weeks ago Jesus noted ‘Great variety of dishes on the menu and all prepared and very good, as is the wine. The waitresses are very friendly and attentive.’  He had the tuna tart.  Ignacio added ‘’Totally recommended. A varied menu that includes drinks and coffee, magnificently presented, with careful and friendly service for only 20 euros. See it to believe it. No wonder it's full. Reservation recommended. Keep it up: places like this encourage the desire to eat out.’

We are not lingering long.  Farmacia Jesus J Ducha Gil https://farmaciajesusduchagil.com/ assures us your health is our priority and Celia agrred.  ‘I recently visited the pharmacy and the treatment from the new pharmacist has been very good. Very friendly and attentive, you can see the facelift of a young pharmacy keeping the essence of all of life. I recommend it 100%’

Off south we go and so to the road passed all the sporting fields and municipal swimming pool.  The pool only gets 3.8 stars average but Carlos was enchanted.  ‘I see here that they claim for €5. And where do you pay €10? €5 for the whole day is fine. I was there for 2 days and I loved it. As a Portuguese truck driver from Pontevedra I stayed there and it was wonderful. It's a shame I didn't have my family with me.’

So it goes and so we go on to the weekend.
