Better sandwiches from home

Ideas for the construction of a canal were around in the 18th century , by such chaps as the Count of Gages in 1752. In 1859 José de Gama of Zaragoza, requested the creation of a hydraulic and irrigation project, in order to fertilize fields of Calahorra , Aldeanueva , etc. ... up to the Jalón River .  In 1861, the plan was approved, but it was never built because it was considered unfeasible.





Fast forward to 1903 the General Directorate of Hydraulic Works drafted the General Plan for Canals and Reservoirs, which included the study of the creation of the Lodosa canal. In this way, the idea of ​​a project to give life to the canal resurfaced again, and even more so when in 1906 Saturnino Bellido, together with other members of the Management Board - composed of representatives of municipalities through which the canal would pass, requested that the thing actually get built.  Don Cornelio Arellano formally drafted the project in 1907, it was approved in 1910, and the first works began on May 30, 1915, under the name of the Victoria-Alfonso Canal.





In 1926, once the Ebro Hydrographic Trade Union Confederation was created, the works began to advance quickly thanks to this new body. Therefore, in 1935, the Lodosa Canal was completed and ready for use.



The canal is still in operation today but leaks a bit as it passes through gypsum terrain or because of cracks in the concrete of the canal.. For In November, 2021, a maintenance plan was approved with a budget of 315,800 euros to carry out the necessary repairs within a period of 18 months.




Wiki is always keen to look on the dark side of things. To quote it ‘As for incidents, the canal has been the scene of several unfortunate events. On February 18, 2021, two residents of Castejón died after their car fell into the canal, near Alfaro . On January 28 , 2024, a car fell into the canal near Calahorra , when it was barely carrying water. On June 1 of the same year, two vehicles collided head-on on the road parallel to the canal, with one of them falling into the canal. Finally , on August 10, 2024, a body appeared in a section of the canal, which would later be identified as a resident of Calahorra’

What can I say but some people are very unhappy and others not so.   Month ago food was in Mari’s mind.  One Star ‘The cafeteria is shameful...if you can...better sandwiches from home. They don't even attend to you. More than 1/2 hour and the waitress is gone. 4 people waiting and they have not attended to us. It was 1:50 p.m., time to eat.   Shameful service and food.’

  Pina de Ebro has something for everyone who enjoys the architecture of Spanish pueblos.  It has the tiny lanes, on which houses have been rebuilt for generations without a care for the needs of the modern motorist.  We have the pathways which have been tiled over but once were dirt tracks.  We have the modern suburban developments of low rise houses and 80s hopefully aspiring shacks.  First all, however, we have a park.
