It was a bittersweet feeling
The trees block out most of the view today. We won’t see the Monasterio de Santa María "La Imperial“ . It was founded in 1151 by Alfonso VII - maybe personally. It burnt down in 1781. It was rebuilt. It was abandoned in 1835. It has splendid ruins which are well recorded. Buzo reported, five months ago.
‘We didn't expect to find it. It was a bittersweet feeling. The beauty of the ruin being devoured by vegetation with the sadness of its final disappearance. The view of the church façade full of vegetation compensates for the detour.’
Luis was fairly unhappy. ‘A real shame. And now they have begun to paint the ashlars of the baroque entrance gold. There is no control over this site, but you cannot expect more from Heritage of Castilla y León. It will become a total ruin and the good reliefs will be taken away and no one will do anything. Regrettable and shameful’
Another day with not much else to report.
