It supports horse and mule livestock; there is hunting of partridges, hares and quite a few wolves

The trouble with Spain it just doesn;t know how to behave.  We’ve got up hundreds of metres, we should have wide open vistas.  Nope, we have fields, cows on a slope, and trees edging us into the shade.  We will go near to the settlement of Cubilla de la Sierra which has a church so is a village.  Twenty five people live here.  So much more was said in the 19th century.

Town in the province, diocese, territorial audience and general captaincy of Burgos (12 leagues), judicial district of Villarcayo (8), titled municipality of the Valley of Tobalina (1); Located on a very high slope called Umión, from where part of the Rioja, Burgos and said valley can be seen; its climate is cool, all winds fight it and the most frequent illnesses are colds. It has 30 houses; a school for both sexes equipped with 14 bushels of wheat; a fountain within the town and several in the area, all of them with excellent water; a parish church (San Martín) with its cemetery to the N, served by a parish priest and a sacristan. The area is bordered by Orbañanos N; Obarenes E; Mirabeche S, and Valderrama W. The land is mountainous and of poor quality; beech, oak and box trees are grown on the aforementioned Umión slope; There are also some natural meadows that produce the good grass called lebruna in the country. Roads: there is a royal road in the direction of La Rioja and the mountains, which is half-finished. Production: wheat, barley and other seeds in small quantities, the largest crop being wheat; it supports horse and mule livestock; there is hunting of partridges, hares and quite a few wolves. Industry: agriculture and livestock. Population: 17 residents, 64 souls. Productive capital: 179,010 reales. Taxable: 17,169.

As they mention wolves we may wish to note about 2200 to 2700 wolves wander around Iberia in about 350 packs.  It is thought they are getting up close and personal with dogs, especially in the south, where wolves seem to be near extinction.
