I went to get butane and they treated me very well
Torremontalbo is first recorded in the 11th century, Its one claim to fame is that on 27th June 1903 The mail train 160, from the Northern Railway Company, made up of a steam locomotive, 10 passenger coaches and 7 wagons, left Bilbao in the early hours of the morning bound for Zaragoza. At Miranda de Ebro station a second locomotive was added, a fact that is not entirely clear why. When it reached the Torremontalbo section and was about to cross the bridge over which the track was crossing, the first locomotive had reached the end of the bridge when something caused the second locomotive to leave the track and with it the rest of the convoy. The wagons overturned and with a great crash they crashed against the beams of the bridge and fell into the Najerilla riverbed. 44 people were killed and a further 80 injured.
We are crossing the Rio Najerilla as we leave the place. The Tower of the Counts of Hervias guards the crossing. It is either 14th or 15th century in origin. Antonio visited four years ago. He said ‘Elegant, sober, romantic. I went on a beautiful, autumnal, foggy November day. The surroundings of the tower strewn with dry, reddish leaves. I have a good memory.
It is time for lunch, The restaurante and hostal La Cepa Rubi visited tow days ago and was impressed. ‘We were visiting all the towns around, and didn't want to jump from hotel to hotel, so we chose one in the center of the zone. It is not a luxury place, but it was perfectly acceptable for our needs. Super clean, good beds, a restaurant on site with good food (just out of the oven croissants in the morning), and great attention to needs. The owners are extremely service oriented and nice. Since we were traveling, parking was important; lots of secure parking. We would come back!’
You cant beat a good supplier of farm equipment and Lagunilla Agricola will do that, Inaki said ‘I went to get butane and they treated me very well, they very kindly helped me put the cylinders in the car.’ DM was less impressed . ‘I called to ask if they had several second-hand pruning shears in stock (€400/€500), and they said yes. When I got there (1 hour by car), the workshop operator told me that they had nothing, and that no one had told him anything. After telling me that he didn't have any several times, he told me that there were some for €900. Another hour of driving back empty-handed’
Oh well. Onwards and towards Cenicero.
