We are about to join the -629. It is another much improved road. It runs from Colindres in Cabria and ends in Burgos.  





We are entering the Trueba valley.A scattering of houses makes up Barcenillas del Ribero.  Apparently 100 people lived here in 1950 and 62 today.  Wiki informs us that ‘The church, school and cemetery were financed by Don Eusebio de Guinea.’  




Let us pause at Bar Restaurante El Ribero.  Three months ago Jirina found things not as they wished.  ‘They did not allow us to take two menus for 4 people (2 adults,2 children), saying that this was not possible in Spain. however, we have been in Spain for 3 weeks and everywhere we saw that people were sharing meal. We have children and they don't eat the whole menu (25eur /one) finally he said that we can order 4 half menus. but one for 18.50?  We left…





Txus was happier about the same time.  ‘More than recommended restaurant to go to eat both during the week and on the weekend. Very helpful. HOMEMADE food. At a good price.’

I write this as snow is bothering the high passes.   I have been looking for pithy snow facts and am struggling a bit.  The coldest recorded temp this century is -26.5oC in Torremocha de Jiloca in January 2021.

  Pina de Ebro has something for everyone who enjoys the architecture of Spanish pueblos.  It has the tiny lanes, on which houses have been rebuilt for generations without a care for the needs of the modern motorist.  We have the pathways which have been tiled over but once were dirt tracks.  We have the modern suburban developments of low rise houses and 80s hopefully aspiring shacks.  First all, however, we have a park. One thing we noticed, especially with a small boy in tow, was the number of parks with interesting play equipment.  This is because, in Spain, people seem to like children.  This does make them a semi-public property and people feel free to indulge them with sweetmeats and pass comments. ‘I think sucking thumbs makes children look ugly’ said one elderly woman.’ My Spanish for ‘well desiccated prune face, no one asked you’ deserted me.  The play equipment is in the Plaza Pilarin Artigas.  Honestly I’ve looked and was giving u...
