The interior spectacular, there is a bar

We are about 550m above sea level.  Our walk, Google tells me, will take 48 minutes.  If we cycled it would be 11 minutes and cars 6.  If you are a fan of huge empty landscapes we are going to revel in it today. I mean, we have a near Cebolleros experience but we veer off to the south.  This is a shame because we will miss two things.

  • The Free Car Park.  It gets 4.8 stars from nine reviews.  I believe none of this is for the car park.

  • The Castillo de Cebolleros

The Castle is the barking mad and wonderful work of Serafin Villaran.  He started building it in 1978, using materials from the Rio Nela, working mostly at weekends and holidays.  Serafin died in 1998 but his daughter, Yolanda, carried on his work. The play won’t open till next Easter so we probably are best not visiting.

Here are some reviews.

Rosa [a week ago]  ‘It is open during Easter, you can only see it from the outside, but it is worth it, because it is original and very well preserved, the town is super quiet and with parking.’

Dani [a month a go]  ‘Brutal, many years of work, river songs everywhere to make an entire castle, the interior spectacular, there is a bar, charming. DON'T MISS IT’

And

Eduardo [two months ago]  ‘A castle where the most striking thing is its materials, they say it is unique, since there is no other place built with boulders. The castle, on the other hand, is worth a detour to appreciate its construction.’

That’s it.  Onwards to the south!
