The Italian Job
We are heading into the Saja valley. The river runs towards Torrelavega and to be honest we are entering into that sprawl of apartments, eateries and industrial units that is typical of the stretched arteries of Spanish towns.
The Saja is 72km long. It heads up to Cabezon de la Sal. Bad floods occurred in 1953, 1983, 2010 and 2019. Things are being done about it. We are going to cross the Saja on the Bridge of the Italians. Mira said /The bridge was built like the SNIACE factory with Italian technology and supervision, hence the antonym by which it is known. The project was prepared by the civil engineer Carlos Fernández Casado, based on an Italian original, and signed in Madrid, in April 1942.
Its construction was authorized in January 1945, which was executed by the Monobra company, allowing the facilities to be connected factories with the Cantabrian railway and the Santander-Oviedo national highway. It is 11 meters wide and the foundation is direct in the access sections and deep with concrete piles in the central area. The industrial crisis and the change in habits in the population led to the sports facilities and green areas in the surrounding area being managed by the City Council, giving new life to the environment. The existing mural paintings under the first pedestrian access arch to the Patatal circuit stand out. Name given perhaps as a reminder of the previous use of the 1,145 properties that were expropriated from the neighbors for the construction of the factory.’
Let us end at La Principal. A restaurante. https://www.la-principal.es/ 7 hours ago Javier was impressed ‘I told my cousin that I needed a combined package to cure my cold. So we went to dinner at „La Principal“ in Barreda. And the truth is that, after the plate of fried potatoes with marinated tenderloin, fried eggs and peppers that I stuffed between my chest and back, my cold has gone away.’ Let's end on that up note.
