Skirting round and about

Torrelavega is one of those places which you get where lots of valleys and high places decide to meet up on a wider bit of plain. It has a river, railway and a lot of road.  We are going to skirt round the outside of it. Some of it is modern, ordered and treed; some a hotch potch of old and new in chaos of old lanes.

Various peoples lived here - it would be odd if they didn’t In the 13th century someone decided to write it down.  Apparently Garcilaso I de la Vega - the Governor of Castille, seems to have founded the current place on behalf of Alfonso XI - who was probably busy taking part in the Hundreds Years War, doing battle with the Moors and engaged in the odd bit of civil conflict.  The place boomed on the 17th century, apparently through flour milling, tanning, textiles and trade.  Abit of zinc was added to the mix in 1853,

A country’s past is often told in its populace  About 8% of the populace are foreign born.  No one group dominates.  Moroccans are the largest group, then Romanians, Colombian and  Venezuelans.    Apparently 6 British men and 7 women dwell here.  The mayor has been a Socialist or from the Regionalist Party.  The current, Javier Lopez Estrada, is from the PRC. https://es.wikipedia.org/wiki/Partido_Regionalista_de_Cantabria The PP. PRC and PSOE share the vote roughly equally.  As a final thought, nearby Barreda celebrates Our Lady of Pilar’s day on the 13th.

We are skirting the town in a tree lined avenue and passing the Aparcamiento Municipal de la Inmobiliaria.  It online gets an average of 4.9 stars and Joaquin only gave it three of them.. ‘Parking and deterrent at the entrance to Torrelavega. I think that if the parking areas were respected it would be great when making U-turns and maneuvers.’   Four weeks ago JA said ‘Almost always full but being in such a populated neighborhood it is normal and there is also the Dobra health center’

We pass by very few reviewed wonders.  One such is CEIP Pancho Cossio.   I think the blog needs updating.  https://panchocossiosierrapando.blogspot.com/ The last post was in June and it is time for a welcome back thing.  The 10 reviews are a bit typical  The last three are one star and no comment.  The first worded one is by Maria and she said two years ago ‘Very good. Good level of studies and very good level of English. Highly recommended.’

Well, we are out in the country so let us breath deeply and enjoy the view.
