Shuffling towards Santander

Santander is blessed with geography.  It exists because, in a coast of rocks and reefs, it has a waterfront which is tucked under a long headland, protecting the Bahia de Santander - a safe anchorage for a rather large number of ships.  The city grew up on the south side of the headland.  The road west splits, again, with a large lump of geography making the route clear.

O’Dowells Sports Tavern is early on in our journey.  It is a place which thrives after 9pm and is not, generally busy, Sunday lunch.  I’m generally of the opinion that Antonio is familiar with chain ale houses, less so of the variety of British vernacular.  He observed ‘The decoration is typical English style. Big place nice atmosphere. There is a big screen to project sports events. They serve menu of the day and a la carte. The mens toilet not very clean.’  I am glad they gone for authenticity with regard to the privy.  Arleen observed ‘Have came for dinner and liked! Their nachos are good, service was not bad, and sandwiches okay! Would recommend if it’s for something quick but not a 100% go to.’

Skimming through the reviews, the nachos appear a lot point.  Valeria reckoned ‘Two of us went for dinner for about 30 euros, a fairly adequate price for the quality of the food and the quantity. The nachos are nothing out of this world, but they are very good, for 8.90 you can't expect homemade nachos, although that doesn't mean they're good. They are also good for going for a snack with a must. The burgers are more of the same, price appropriate for the food. The O'Pepe burger is highly recommended.’

We end the day with a fire station.  The Parque de Bomberos de Santander.    Googlem tells me it is open 24 hours a day.  https://www.santander.es/ayuntamiento/gobierno-municipal/organigrama-ayto-concejalias/concejalia-servicios/extincion   I has reviews.  I has one, unwored, 1 star from Alex.

Let us end with Luis’ fulsome praise.  ‘I want to thank the Santander Firefighters for their intervention in my house in Corbán (San Román de la Llanilla) to neutralize a velutina (Asian) wasp nest. After a first attack by the professionals, three days later they rebuilt the nest, and later, in a second action, they completely reduced it. They have been days of great unrest and anxiety. Due to the heat, having the windows closed became more uncomfortable, during those days we could not hang our clothes or go outside practically for fear of being attacked, but, fortunately, the performance of the firefighters has been unbeatable professionally and, after three days , it seems that normality has returned to our home. We reiterate our most sincere gratitude to all the municipal services that ensure our safety and protection, especially to the Santander Firefighters who since the activity of these insects began in mid-April have carried out more than 160 interventions for their eradication. Luis López Martínez Corbán 38 (San Román)’
