Spanish contention that parking is not a legally bound civic activity but an adventure sport

Today is the day of Ceuta. Enjoy in an North African sort of a way.

Itis going to be a day when the N-632 feels like a country road and we are going to take in the pretty fields and joyous trees.  We will not have many other things to review but we will go near the turn for Playa de Rodiles and it is worth a mention.

Rodiles beach is wonderful expansive of yellow sand. It has rocks at one end that a boy can stretch from one to the other and it slopes gently into the Atlantic.  It is also where I really first got to grips with the Spanish contention that parking is not a legally bound civic activity but an adventure sport.  Merely parking on the hatched lines at the junction of a road is a commonplace.  There is a reason why double yellow lines are put on tiny spaces. If it can be parked on, it will be.

Anywhere that gets an average of 4,7 stars from over 1700 reviews must be good.  15 hours ago Elena wrote ‘Fantastic beach with fabulous recreational area. You have to go early because otherwise you won't park and there are many parking areas, but there are a lot of people. What is terrible are the bathrooms that are a little abandoned and of the three there are, one or two usually work if you are lucky. There are restaurants and beach bars. Nice atmosphere. The beach is kilometer long and has plenty of lifeguards. For people with mobility problems there are devices to take them to the water and staff to help you. There is a public address system that warns you about the sea, the currents, poorly parked cars and various news. You can also take your dog family in the tables and trees area. Frankly to spend the day very happy’

Back on the beaten track we will pass the Bar Restaurante La Vitoria.  It opens at 10am but seems to be busiest between 5pm and 9pm.  Yesterday Joan was miffed.  It gets a three star model review ‘It wasn't bad, huh? But they were very slow, there was only one girl serving all the tables, in the end we left without having dessert. The fabada was ok, but it was missing a little “something”, very average. Croquettes also normal, nothing out of this world. The place is not bad but I wouldn't go out of my way to go, if it's close to you it's OK’

Alyona was more pleased. ‘Good place in a beautiful valley of Villaviciosa region. Typical restaurant of Asturias, tasty food for a reasonable price. Nice staff. Also, they have a parking. We came on a sunny sunday in May. We were the first ones at 2pm. Food served in no time. When we left it was packed. My advice is to come early.’

More of the same tomorrow.
