Road Sandwich

 We are entering the Watford Gap of Northern Spain.  Well, to be honest there must be many of them, but it is a space where rail, road and road again squeeze through.  The N-632 has gone in land.  The AS-379 cuddles up to the railway to find a way between great lumps of geography here.  The A-8 decided to make a sandwich of our road and so we advance.

Woman was so nice. Did our laundry for us. So nice after a long day. Dog and two cats was so cute 😍 recommended this to other pilgrims. My friend started to cry because the woman was so nice and met us with kindness. …;  A year ago Tommy added ‘A lovely detached cabin that sleeps six. I was lucky to have it to myself the other night. Rosa (hospitalera) had a wood burning fire keeping the place nice and warm when I arrived. Breakfast was included and she also washed and dried my laundry. A really great value stay for anyone walking the Camino Del Norte through Asturias. Muchas gracias Rosa’




Onwards to the industrial estates that have grown up near the motorway junction.  Exclusivas Goyo sl is a 4.5 star warehouse.  Raquel was not charmed .’Never in our lives had we come across someone so extremely unprofessional. Days before an event with more than 30,000 people, he informs our brands that he is not going to carry out the distribution, because according to him, last year, which, unfortunately, was difficult for us, he had to collect too much product 🤦‍♀️ We have been there for more than 12 years organizing events and it is the first time that something similar has happened to us. Incredible!’   Three years ago Oscar said ‘This place is very good for wholesale purchases, the girls who serve you are very friendly and there is good parking for cars👍🏻 …’





We end the day im Nueva.  It is a smallish place, 45m above sea level, whose patron saint is St George.  A cave nearby was settled but the Mesolithic chaps.  The Bronze Age people made the odd barrow and King Carlos I seems to have had a picnic nearby.  



Fans of the Royal Navy would like to know  On August 2nd, 1810, an English expedition consisting of three frigates and smaller vessels with eight hundred soldiers under the command of General Juan Díaz Porlier ,arrived at Cuevas del Mar. The landing took place under the protection of the flying parties of the council of Llanes, captained by José Balmori. From Nueva, the large convoy headed to Espinama de Liébana to fight the French .They made a nuisance of themselves before moving on.

  • San Juanón Festival . Celebrated on the last weekend of July.

  • Festival of Our Lady of Henar . It is celebrated on August 5th.

  • Fiestas del Santo Cristo del Amparo . The festivities are celebrated on September 13 and 14.

  • Festivities of the Virgen de la Blanca . Celebrated on September 7 and 8.

  • Festivities of Our Lady of Loreto in Llamigo and Battle of Wine. September 9th.

Mini Pieces of Supposed tuna

  Pina de Ebro has something for everyone who enjoys the architecture of Spanish pueblos.  It has the tiny lanes, on which houses have been rebuilt for generations without a care for the needs of the modern motorist.  We have the pathways which have been tiled over but once were dirt tracks.  We have the modern suburban developments of low rise houses and 80s hopefully aspiring shacks.  First all, however, we have a park. One thing we noticed, especially with a small boy in tow, was the number of parks with interesting play equipment.  This is because, in Spain, people seem to like children.  This does make them a semi-public property and people feel free to indulge them with sweetmeats and pass comments. ‘I think sucking thumbs makes children look ugly’ said one elderly woman.’ My Spanish for ‘well desiccated prune face, no one asked you’ deserted me.  The play equipment is in the Plaza Pilarin Artigas.  Honestly I’ve looked and was giving u...
