I think there are better banks

We are heading for Poo, no, really. But first a surf school and dinner.  La Escuela de Surf Llanes Garden y alquiler de bicis. It gets 4.9 stars from over 150 reviews so, pretty good.  https://www.llanesgarden.com/  JNB said a month a go.  ‘We were eating here after a morning at the beach and it is a very nice place. Many outdoor tables. Very fast service.’

Now Poo is a place with a history.   It is Poo in Spanish and Po in Asturian.  Brits with nothing more than simple levity and a honest if straight forward wit, used to nick the town sign - or least have a photo by it.  Some citizens complained.  An ‘h’ was, apparently, thought to be a solution if added to the name.  It appears they took the ‘O’ instead.  393 people live here.

Po station gets a rare thing, 5 stars from 8 reviews.  Alenei said ‘Delicacy for train freaks and pilgrims to St. James. The name is irritating. It is the stopping point of the narrow-gauge coastal railway, which is a maximum experience for railway fans because of its spectacular route. A romantic narrow-gauge idyll near the beach with 2 station restaurants and a lovingly designed station square. In passenger transport, railcars and occasionally freight trains with double traction run regularly. I photographed one of them near Poo on Playa Antolin in front of the tunnel entrance. Directly behind the train station is the fairly new Europa Hostel for pilgrims to St. James.’   James was less poetic ‘great station but tragically named’

So we enter Llanes.  It has one of those areas which feel laid out for flats than never came.  The Club Oriente Atletismo promises much but Google are trying to find out if it is closed.  We will wander along the front, stopping by the El banco más guapu de Llanes.  https://guiadeasturias.com/lugar/el-paseo-de-san-pedro/  This seaside stroll comes in at 4.7 from over 3000 people.   Two months agomJohn said ‘Beautiful views and a great place to stroll or sit and admire the swallows. Lovely walk out to the old look-out point and beyond to poo beach.’

I had to find a one star utterance.  Juan reckoned ‘I went with the idea of finding an idyllic place. But it wasn't like that. You are close to the cliffs but sitting you only see the sea. It is better not to go in summer because without shade you will get heat stroke. I think there are better banks.’  You can’t please some people.

Tomorrow.  The port and town.
