Cow cheese on a stick
We begin in Vidiago. It has 240 people and a cheese shop. Queseria Collera https://www.queseriacollera.com/ has a website and some rather lovely labels. It gets 4.6 stars from 132 reviews. A month ago Andres said ‘small cheese factory (somewhat hidden) but with delicious cheeses and at a good price. You can park nearby at the train station and walk up (it will take 5 minutes). The service is very good, they gave us a taste of the cheeses and we wanted to take them all. They do not accept payment by card but you can cash or bizum (from an amount that I do not remember) Cow cheese on a stick Cheese macerated in oil. goat cheese We will repeat for sure.’
The Hotel Bufon de Arenillas is a 3 star / 4.3 reviewed sort of a place. Cleo reckoned it was ‘A really nice and quiet place, it was perfectly clean and so comfortable! The lady is very very nice and takes care of any needs. We would definitely come back!’ The hotel highlights were ‘Luxury, Romantic, Quiet, Great value’ Mara was miffed. She brought her dog with her and, apparently, hadn;t read no dogs on the website.
Vidiago contains several other cafes and a church Santa Maria de la Paz. A year ago R GR was unhappy. ‘Taking advantage of our visit to the area, we stopped to eat and rest since next to the church they have a picnic table (I understand it is for that purpose). And what a shame...everything full of cigarette butts and even empty beer bottles... A lot of lack of awareness. Just leave a message to the councilor of Llanes who approached us to throw us out in 5 minutes, threatening. Clean the town and raise awareness among its inhabitants.’ Luiz was more supportive.
We are ending the day and crossing under the motorway and into Lugar Pendueles. It is one of those villages that has chosen to ignore the north, Biscay facing slope for the one which was south facing and above the valley floor. We are outside the Restaurante bar Casa Flor la Mexicana. http://www.micartaenlanube.es/casaflor/idioma1.html Nachos dishes range from 12 to 18 euros. Lydia reckoned ‘We went here for lunch on the camino and loved it!It's a wonderful restaurant with passionate owners and delicious food of great quality, presentation, portion sizes and price. I wish this restaurant was in my local area back in the UK - I'd visit all the time haha! The desserts on the menu looked so tempting but we were sadly too full to eat anything else.’
