They flee from humble families
We are approaching Aviles. It is the third largest city in Asturias and marks the north west of the triangle of the central most urbanised part of the region. The place was given a charter by Alfonso VI. The city sits on an estuary and a castle was built to protect shipping. Like all proper places it had a great fire - in 1479 and had a sad history of being attacked by beastly French and English pirates. On a lighter note the place got street illumination in 1891. In the Twentieth century the place boomed with minerals and metal work. Today a firth of workers are in the industrial sector ad 70% in services. We are a bit early. The 28th August marks San Agustin’s day and a beer festival is held in the week before.
As always we will be passing many, many things. La Fabrica de Musicos https://www.lafabricademusicos.com/ All reviews are 5 star. Luis said ‘Good professionals, good facilities and easy schedules. A good method with the possibility of adapting it. Suitable for children and adults, to begin or perfect.’
We have not been into a Burger King for a while so we might as well pop into the one on the Calle de la Camara. It gets 3.6 stars. Michael Gilwood is clearly not a regular and unlikely to become one. He said ‘I went on a Saturday afternoon and found the service rather slow. They had preference in serving the deliveries over the customers. Also very noisy with loads of adolescents screaming and shouting without control. Trays left on tables, no sanitary measures. Everyone was looking at their mobile devices. The last time I went was ten years ago and found it better, I am afraid I won't be going back.’
Let us enter the Plaza de Espana. It has a website. https://aviles.es/en/plaza-de-espana There are some Mediaeval buildings there but has an 18th century palace. Oswaldo Tesch is generally in favour. ‘The entire center of Avilés is very beautiful, many things to visit such as Plaza de España town hall, San Nicolás de Bari church, Avilés palace, Niemeyer center, port of Avilés, school of arts and crafts, Ferrera park, Palacio Valdés theater, etc. So good with very good places to eat, recommended place to visit in Asturias.’
The town hall is not in favour - you would expect as much. I mean, who looks out at how the bins were collected and think, where is Google, I must recall this glory for the visitor. I think Samba’s rant is with recalling ‘Avilés, officially cataloged, recently, as "the ugliest city in Spain." I would say, "ugliest town" in Spain. And the City Council likes to deceive with its campaigns to attract tourists, who then, in addition, only hope that people with "money" visit us and disgust those who stay in tourist apartments or small hostels and hotels. This is what they preach day and night, praying and imposing as their sole objective visitors who leave as much money as possible in this den, they demand it and call it "sustainable tourism." They flee from humble families or people who simply like to go their own way and do not feel like visiting places and locking themselves in a 14 square meter room, while they could be in a 50 square meter apartment or who cannot afford a 4 or 5 star hotel for 4, 5 or 6 people. We are having too much luck for what Avilés is. Greed and lack of sense are the beginning of the end.’
I have to say I generally liked the place in an understated sort of way. Lugares was more focused ‘By appointment. Punctuality and good work. The person in charge of organizing the admission does his job correctly. Inside, they also facilitate and help in procedures, due to lack of personnel.’
Today we have wandered through photos from as early as 2014 and as modern as June this year - they were the grey and wet ones on the outskirts, We end on the Calle Palacio Valdes and the Dental Clinic of Dr Victor Granda. No reviews are available, https://www.victorgrandacd.com/
